English thoroughbred riding horses are one of the most popular and sought after in the world. In Russia, she is a leader among racehorses. Previously, this breed was called the English horse. Now it is the fastest horse in the world, because it can accelerate to 60 km / h. At competitions, no other breed can compare in speed with the English thoroughbred. The thing is that their body is not able to endure such loads, which does not give them any opportunity to win.
Breeding history
In the 17th century, this breed of horses was first introduced. Most likely, it was bred intentionally for English equestrian sport. But the main goal of the British was to create a powerful horse army. After some time, the breed underwent changes and improved, and its popularity spread far beyond the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
This type of horse was kept in the best and most suitable conditions for survival. They were specially trained and grown using special technology in a special environment. Throughout all time, the English thoroughbred was mated only with representatives of its own species, which is why it is still considered to be purebred. But in the modern world, this species has already begun to be crossed with heavy horse stallions in order to obtain strong and fit for work animals combining strength and grace. These are new breeds of horses for riding and work.
In Russia, the purchase of this breed was made in order to breed its own breed, which subsequently paid off. New breeds from Russia excelled in competitions and showed good results. It is safe to say that it was not without the English breed here.
Breed description
The growth of horses reaches 160 centimeters and a very proportional physique is noted. The horses have a small head with big eyes. The main feature of the breed is a strong muscular body.
To learn the English thoroughbred, just look at the neck - it is long and graceful, without an Adam's apple, legs are dry and strong. The color of individuals varies from red, bay to black. Gray is very rare. This breed of vegetation on the body is not very much. The mane and tail are not thick, the fringe is thin, and if the trotter has a lot of body hair, then this is considered a deviation from the norm.
The temperament of this breed is very frisky, energetic and brave with a frantic reaction. Horses are distinguished by a special devotion to the owner and a desire for leadership. In competitions, horses of these breeds are usually not used, since a heavy disposition sometimes goes beyond the limits, which makes the animal unbalanced. The animal can adapt and endure very strong stresses on the respiratory system. Powerful and even back is very strong and hardy.
This breed has a highly stable nervous system and a quick reaction to the actions of the rider, but beginners are not recommended to ride this horse, as in open areas you can easily lose control and put your life in great danger.
Stallion behavior
Sexual reactions in males manifest at a very early age (2-3 months). Thanks to this early maturation, males in the future become strong offspring and leaders. In the spring, males have a specific smell that attracts a female ready for mating. Males, as a rule, are attached to one mare, and are aggressive towards the rest.
Female behavior
In the spring, females secrete special sex hormones that attract the male and give a signal of readiness for mating, while pregnant mares are aggressively attuned to horses from their school.
Maternal love of a mare for a foal is unique and lasts the first months of a baby’s life. During this period, they are always together.
What helps this breed of horses win in various races and races:
- Hardy heart.
- Strong sinewy legs and powerful back.
- Strong tendons.
- Good lung structure.
- Blood purity.
Disadvantages of the breed
Along with the pros, you can note its disadvantages of this breed. Unfortunately, due to old age or frequent competition, horses can develop trembling of the limbs, in which the legs bend, and instability appears in the wrist joint. But most often it is a congenital disease in which the horse is rejected. If this ailment is noticed at a young age, then an adult will not be allowed to run. It is very surprising that, despite a powerful body and muscles, horses of this breed have very fragile bones.
Care and maintenance
Due to the constant selection, the structure of horses of this breed is weak. For normal functioning of the body, the nutrition of the horses must be balanced and contain all the necessary vitamins and minerals, therefore the feed is selected only of the highest quality, and the living conditions correspond to the breed. Female horses sometimes can not get pregnant and get sick quite often, so care for animals should be doubled.
Horses are also accompanied by frequent nosebleeds. This is usually due to the fact that the walls of blood vessels become thinner due to stress. This is not a big deal when it comes to horse racing. However, when breeding, they pay attention to this.
Frosts for this breed are also undesirable and are poorly tolerated by horses. In open areas, it is undesirable to walk them. For an individual, a plot of at least 50 square meters is required and its own access to the lawn is required. Horses are bathed in special pools, and they are also given a massage. Horse equipment is made only of high quality materials.
Advice:
- A prerequisite for the construction of stables is the choice of materials. The structure intended for keeping the animal must be warm, resistant to frost. Materials such as needles, adobe and brick are suitable.
- Roof construction should be very high quality. Waterproof materials are used. The ceiling must be insulated.
- The floor must be dry, non-slip, but not wet and warm. They come from clay, oak and other materials.
- It is necessary to make heating. It takes a lot of electricity, but the horse requires maximum care and maintenance.
- It is very important to carry out ventilation, as fresh air is important for the horse.
- Sewerage is another integral factor in the stable. Be sure to monitor the manure.
Horse Care
Constant cleaning and massage of horses is simply necessary for the normal life of the animal, because thanks to the care, the aesthetic appearance of the horse is preserved and hygiene is maintained. A clean horse always looks perfect - shiny hair shimmers in the sun, and a mane flutters in the wind.
This breed requires daily care. Cleaning is carried out with a brush, washcloth and warm water, but laundry soap will not work. To care for the delicate skin of an animal, special shampoos are needed.
Horse feed
Almost the most important element in the nutrition of English thoroughbred horses is hay. Young individuals need 5-6 kg of hay after the races and 8 kg during active training. But besides hay, green fodder is also important for horses - it is meadow grass such as clover or alfalfa. It is necessary to feed the horses with freshly cut grass, arranged in small heaps, but before you start feeding the animal, you need to give him water to drink.
Juicy food - fruits and vegetables is also important for the horse. It can be apples, carrots, beets and potatoes (raw or boiled). The feed may also be concentrated and includes oats, barley, legumes and bran, wheat and corn. Oat is the most nutritious of all and is served in small portions, but freshly picked oats can cause colic in the stomach of the animal.
From diet food, bran can be distinguished. They are very well absorbed by the horse’s tender stomach. They have a lot of phosphorus. Before feeding, bran should be soaked in salted water. The norm of bran is 2 kg per day.
Rye is served extremely rarely and is not included in the compulsory diet of an animal.
Horses also need a dose of vitamins, water and salt.
Note! The leaves, inflorescences, and fruits of some plants can be fatal to a horse. These plants include flax, horseradish, St. John's wort, yew, acorns and many others.
Application
This breed was designed for racing and was grown in accordance with all requirements. These horses are the best in equestrian sports and no one has yet managed to overcome them. In addition to racing, the breed is also used during hunting and polo. Owners of horses specifically buy this breed to breed half-breeds for powerful offspring.
Price
- The prestige of the animal.
- Having a good pedigree.
- The passport.
- Origin.
- The age of the animal.
- The health status of the horse.
Since this is a very expensive breed, not everyone can afford its maintenance, and caring for horses requires a lot of time and energy. Only true horse lovers will be able to cope with all the nuances. However, the average life span of this breed is small - 23 years for males and 20 years for females, but representatives of this breed are simply perfection itself.
