The most ancient domesticated cat is, of course, Aegean. For hundreds of years, these semi-wild small but bold animals live next to people on the shores of the Aegean. Accustomed pets served their duties at home. Fishermen went fishing on the high seas, and sometimes they were gone for many days. The house remained at the mercy of small rodents and other pests. But only until that time, until the Aegean representative appeared. All residents knew that they were the ones who prey on crop destroyers, killing them and, of course, eating them.

A true Aegean cat belongs to rare guests outside the Greek state.

Representatives of various communities can also be understood:

1. Outwardly such cats do not differ much from the most ordinary yard representatives, therefore it is very problematic to bring this species to the necessary champion standards.
2. Many cats that appeared through unplanned crossbreeding are very reminiscent of the Aegean.

However, breeders do not cease to prove that a distinctive important feature is precisely in the unusual character and disposition of the animal, its behavior and in habits that have been formed for hundreds of years in natural conditions, improving from generation to generation.

Breeders themselves created standard parameters that they strictly adhere to. And now, before acquiring an Aegean cat, you need to know what a real Greek guest looks like, living in natural conditions:

1. Their size is medium or very small, a cat can weigh from 2 to 5 kg. Such dimensions were formed because for survival it was necessary to be hardy and jumping, getting poor food in scarce terrain. Cats are larger than females.
2. The head has a regular shape, close to triangular, the dimensions are medium.
3. The ears are pretty neat, tall, set wide apart. At the very base, they are wide and covered with horizontally growing wool. The tips must be rounded and slightly curved along the board to the eyes.
4. Eyes. A little slanting and wide open, as if summed up, thanks to which philosophical thoughtfulness and expressiveness are given to the look. Their color gamut ranges from yellow to green.
5. The nose must be proportional, narrow from the nose to the “pad”.
6. The neck looks wide, medium length, but it is very flexible.
7. The shoulders as well as the chest are quite wide.
8. The body is long. It can be mistakenly assumed that the cat is fat, but in fact his muscles are well developed.
9. Paws are strong, proportional to the body. Large but graceful brushes and parade ground.The nails are powerful, especially on the hind limbs, and are strongly bent.
10. The tail should not contain kinks, but be only straight and long. It differs from other parts of the body with abundant wool.
11. The coat is small in length, but it is very thick, although it does not have an undercoat. This fact is explained by the fact that the hot climate of Greece did not force animals to acquire additional body heating. The most furry places differ in the collar zone and tail.
12. Color has a rich palette. But nevertheless, one condition must be maintained: the main color is only white, and, without any inclusions, ebbs and other unacceptable defects. The second color, if the color is bicolor, may turn out to be black or red, blue or red, cream or gray, etc. The same conditions remain if there is a pattern of spots. More often the Aegeans may have stripes, but a plain color, spots, ticking are also acceptable.

The breeders of the kittens are discarded immediately if they were born:

• completely snow-white;
• with noticeable defective tail creases;
• with a lack of vision;
• hearing pathologies;
• with disturbed body proportions;
• weak, with undeveloped limbs.

Features of the docile character

The hosts can brag about their Aegean pets endlessly. It seems that these cats have absolutely no flaws. Indeed, one rarely encounters an animal with such a harmonious combination of mind, devotion and activity.

They hardly give in to training, yet Aegean cats are used to living outside and fighting for their survival in difficult conditions. But this can also be attributed to the advantages of the breed, since in those houses or in the adjoining areas where rodents, lizards or birds used to dominate, they will soon disappear due to the natural hunting instincts of the Aegean. But for this reason, you should not keep a small living creature in the house, otherwise it can be severely damaged. Since the Aegean cat is an excellent angler with specially adapted claws for catching, one should not keep an aquarium in the house.

Animals are devoted to the owner to fanaticism and try to accompany him constantly, managing to speak their own language. They love to be caressed, but especially does not insist on it. They get used to the new living conditions without much excitement, so they travel with the family with pleasure. Strangers are friendly, but if you try to offend them, they will show a wild temper.

The ancestors of the Aegeans spent most of their time in nature, and therefore their grandchildren prefer freedom of movement, for this reason it is better if at the genetic level a cat accustomed to independence will live in a private house. If you do not walk her, depression may begin.

Difficulties arise that the Aegeans can independently open doors and windows, build a place to relax in any closet, and jump onto the dining table in search of food. Can take any item as a toy.
