Cat lovers who attend exhibitions are well aware of what grooming is and why it is needed. However, most pet breeders have no idea about it. Grooming cats are called hygienic procedures, caring for ears, teeth, skin and coat. A greater number of cat owners do not even assume that the pet may need certain cosmetic procedures. And their absence, at times, can provoke health problems in a pet. That is why grooming in recent years is gaining popularity even among pet owners who do not attend exhibitions.

Why is this needed?

The purpose of grooming is to improve the appearance and maintain the health of the animal. These procedures include hygiene, hair, ear and eye care, brushing, and nail clipping. Most of the owners of cats believe that they do not need any care, except for periodic vaccinations and nutrition. Naturally, representatives of the cat family can fully service themselves. However, this care is primitive and not enough to maintain hygiene. The hygiene procedures that the cat provides for herself cannot help her get rid of bacteria, parasites and unpleasant odors.

What does that require?

The choice of shampoos and conditioners should be treated with special responsibility. They must be specially designed for cats. Human cosmetics will not work, they can cause allergic reactions. For cats with long hair, products that contain algae are ideal, and for short hair with coconut oil.

Cat Hair Care

Washing plays a primary role. Most owners strongly oppose bathing cats. However, if the animal has the ability to regularly walk outside the house, then this procedure is simply necessary. With the help of shampoos and conditioners, the wool is cleaned of harmful bacteria and parasites. Therefore, you need to bathe your pet, but not more than once every three months. You can also do this as needed.

How to bathe a cat?

1. In the container where you plan to bathe the cat, you need to put a rubber mat. It is needed so that the pet feels confident and does not slip its paws.
2. Prepare 2 towels in advance. One to wrap the animal immediately after swimming, and the second to wipe dry as much as possible.
3. You can use a hairdryer to dry the hair. This will speed up the process and prevent the pet from freezing. However, many cats are afraid of a hissing device. For this reason, it is advisable to accustom a kitten to drying with a hairdryer from a young age.
4. It is only necessary to comb the wool after it has dried sufficiently. If it is still completely wet, the wool will become tangled and the animal may begin to get angry.
5. First you need to comb with a brush, then a comb with rare teeth, and then remove the fallen wool with a rubber glove.

Important! You need to comb a long-haired cat in the direction of hair growth. Shorthair pets can be combed against growth, but you must monitor the reaction of the animal.

Caring for your ears, eyes and teeth

Most owners pay little attention to these parts of the body of their pets and do this only in cases of emergency. This attitude is erroneous. After all, it is they who are often most susceptible to various pathological conditions and are indicators of the health of cats.

1. The ears. It is necessary to inspect every 2-3 days for the presence of sulfur or blood-sucking parasites in them. Once a week they must be wiped with a cotton pad or swab dipped in a special solution or warm water.
2. Eyes. No less attention should be paid to the eyes. Once 7-10 days it is required to wipe them with a decoction of chamomile or calendula. If there is redness or purulent discharge, it is necessary to consult a veterinarian.
3. Teeth. The most important thing for predators is their teeth. But the cat is also a tiger, although small. In order to maintain the health of the teeth, and at the same time the health of the animal itself, it is necessary to remove food debris and plaque during the most simple and affordable way - with the help of brushing. They brush their teeth about once every 5-7 days. This can be done with a special paste and brush or with a cotton pad. It is necessary to accustom an animal to dental care from an early age, then and in the future there will be no problems with this.
