The presence of such a winged pet as a parrot in the house is a great pride. However, if the bird also knows how to talk - not only the owner, but all the guests become witnesses of an amazing event. Everyone knows that a parrot is just a bird, so human speech is a curiosity for it. But if you persistently instill in your pet the ability to talk, perhaps the parrot will amaze all your friends with a human speech consisting of several dozen words.
Which parrots are most learning
As a result of studies conducted in the early 90s, it was revealed that young parrots, living near other herd birds, adopted their speech in a short period of time, that is, they produced sounds made by "neighbors". After such an experiment, scientists thought, if parrots tend to repeat the sounds of animals, why not teach them human speech? Since then, the training of parrots according to words has been practiced in almost every house where this unpretentious pet is available.
It should be noted that not every species of parrots has the same learning ability.
Wavy. It is this species that is most malleable to training. After hard training, which can take several months or even years, the parrot can learn about a hundred words, some individuals can even read poetry. To achieve such an amazing result, the owner needs to be very patient and establish a trusting relationship with his pet.
Corell. No special zeal for the reproduction of human speech. You can teach him to speak words, only this will require a lot of strength and patience, and the vocabulary often does not exceed more than 10 words. Best of all, the sounds of people are remembered by young birds.
Lovebirds. Only 5-6 words can be learned, and then, only in rare situations. If the lovebird speaks, which is not often, then you can hear a clear human speech, without whistling and hissing.
Rosella. Like the previous species, it does not have special abilities to memorize and reproduce human speech. The lexicon of this bird consists of a total of 3-4 words that are directly related to the bird itself - its name or its owner, “hello”, “bye”.
Cockatoo. The largest representative of parrots. It can often be seen in circuses or other performances because of its bright color and the ability to repeat words or phrases after a person. A cockatoo can be taught speech, but for this you will need to spend more than a dozen hours with a bird.
Jaco. Despite the fact that this species of parrots has a nondescript color, it is easily compensated by the ability to talk. After just a few workouts, the parrot begins to speak words, and then phrases. Jaco can reach 100 words in vocabulary, and from the whole variety of human speech, a parrot independently chooses what needs to be said in a given situation.
Who is easier to train - female or male
As a result of numerous experiments that have been done with parrots of various species, scientists have found that males are the most trained. Confirmation of this fact is the example of Pak budgerigar, whose vocabulary consists of 1770 words. Of course, it was possible to teach him such a large number of words over several years, but history does not yet know a single female parrot who could pronounce more than 30 words. The only exception is the Australian parrot.
What to look for before starting training
- Before setting a goal to train a parrot to talk, enter into a trusting relationship with a bird. She should calmly, without fear go into your arms, meet you with friendly chirping. You must become a real friend to her.
- It should be understood that it is impossible to train a parrot in human speech, starting lessons only when you want. Randomly, without a pre-scheduled time, you will not achieve any success. The parrot must learn that now, before being fed, the owner will come and play with him an entertaining game with words. You will have to adapt to the mood of the pet, since he, like a person, will not always want to go to classes.
- During classes, the room should be perfect silence. No screams, extraneous sounds - they will bring down your student. It is very important to personally attend classes - tape recorders, voice recorders for these purposes will not work, especially in the early stages of training. The bird should see the face of its master.
- Ornithologists noted that most of all parrots remember the words that a woman or child pronounces. In this regard, housewives or children should be engaged in training a parrot. However, all classes must be carried out by the same person.
- Please note that the most optimal time when the parrot begins to memorize speech is two months old. This time is ideal for memorizing and reproducing words. You just need to make an effort.
How to quickly teach a parrot to talk
The tips below will help you train your parrot to make human speech as efficiently as possible.
- Training time. The best time is the morning hours before feeding, about 10-15 minutes before you usually feed your pet. If you started training, in no case do you need to finish them, even if the bird started talking, and you spent more than five months on it. Perhaps it is at the 6th month that she will speak her first word.
- Pleasant atmosphere. During training, the house should be not only quiet, but also warm and comfortable. It is forbidden to forcibly pull a bird out of the cage - it must independently sit on your shoulder or arm. It is also not recommended to cover the bird with a thick cloth - everything should be the same as on ordinary days.
- First words. You should start your training with simple words that contain the letters “a”, “o”, “and”, “p”, “k”, “w”. The bird well remembers such words as: Kesha, ciao, bark, dad, gosh. If your pet’s nickname consists of two syllables, you can also work intensively on this word.
- The use of technology. After the parrot learns to speak one or two words, learning the rest of the words will go “like clockwork”. To study more voluminous phrases or poems, you can use a tape recorder. This will allow you to repeatedly include the same work. However, as mentioned above, you should always be present next to the student.
- What if the bird does not want to talk? Do not force the parrot to repeat the words after you. If he has no mood, try to give him some tasty treat, play with him, cheer.
- Constant attention. Try to keep the student alert all the time. To do this, often pronounce his name, praise. Movement of the head, wings, twitching and blinking suggests that the student is listening to you carefully and is ready to repeat after you.
- Positive attitude. If you started training with a bird, remember that you should not accept any negative emotions, negativity or curses. A parrot, like a small child, is sensitive to a change in the mood of its owner, so if he did not like the way you treated him yesterday, he may be upset and offended by you.Try to praise the bird as often as possible, addressing it affectionately, gently and reverently.
- Watch your speech! Very often, in the learning process, after the parrot begins to repeat almost every word after you, the teacher, having forgotten, uses obscene words in his speech that quickly remain in the memory of the bird. Bottom line - your student, like yourself, becomes uncultured.
The legend that parrots can be taught to talk in 5 minutes is a bare lie. To do this, you will need to make every effort to allocate a large amount of all your free time, stock up with a lot of patience and only then you can be proud that you managed to teach the parrot to talk!
