Reasons for the appearance

All etiological factors can be combined in one phrase - the impact of an adverse environment on dry skin predisposed to dry hands. So why do pimples come about? There may be several reasons:

  • Exposure to cold and wind;
  • The combination of cold and humid weather;
  • Frequent use of aggressive household chemicals;
  • Hypovitaminosis;
  • Inadequate hydration of too dry skin.

In children and girls, the skin of the hands is often very thin and quite dry, therefore they are more likely to suffer from chicks. In addition, they often neglect the rules of behavior in the cold and do not wear gloves or mittens.

Chick Development Mechanism

In cold weather, one of the protective mechanisms of the human body is a spasm of blood vessels in the skin. This allows you to give the environment less heat. Under such conditions, the skin of the hands receives a minimum amount of blood, and, consequently, nutrients. This contributes to the development of signs of its atrophy: cracks, dryness, redness and itching.

In windy weather, a large amount of heat is transferred by convection, if the skin is wet - by evaporation. This speeds up the appearance of chicks in the arms. Everyone knows that if you wet your hands in the cold, then the skin will crack and begin to peel off. These same symptoms can be considered the first manifestation of frostbite. In the first stage, the skin will turn white, and then purple-red with a bluish tint, in the second stage, bubbles will appear. The third stage is characterized by necrosis and can lead to the loss of fingers or the entire limb. Therefore, sensitivity to cold should be paid attention to.

Chemicals remove the protective layer of the epidermis from the skin surface, which is manifested by peeling and leads to the development of microcracks and itching. A chemical burn may also occur. A lack of vitamins, especially vitamin A, leads to a violation of the regeneration and normal functioning of the skin epithelium, which causes the appearance of chicks.

Methods of struggle

To combat pimples on hands, you can use cosmetics sold in pharmacies or stores, as well as home-made products. Among the ready-made options, it is worth choosing a means containing panthenol. This substance perfectly saves not only from burns, but also from manifestations of cold exposure. Regular petroleum jelly also helps in the fight against dryness and peeling. You can buy it in a pharmacy, the usual non-sterile one will do, and apply it to your hands several times a day.

Home methods of fighting pimples can be divided into several fundamentally different methods: baths, masks and creams, compresses.

Baths

Hand baths from chicks

  1. Vitamin. Pour warm water into a medium-sized bowl, add two tablespoons of vegetable oil and a few drops of oil solutions of vitamins A and E. Lower your hands for at least 20 minutes, then pat with a towel.
  2. Herbal For a teaspoon of chamomile, calendula, sage and plantain herbs, pour a glass of boiling water. Heat the resulting mixture in a water bath 15 minutes after boiling, then strain and insist 40 minutes. After that, add the resulting infusion to a bowl of warm water and hold your hands there for 30 minutes.
  3. Dairy. Take 250ml of fat milk, goat is perfect. Warm up to medium temperature and lower your hands into it for 30 minutes. For a better effect, you can add oily solutions of vitamins or chamomile infusion to warm milk.
  4. Glycerin. Mix a tablespoon of glycerin with a tablespoon of ammonia. Add the mixture to a bowl of warm water and hold your hands there for 20 minutes.

Baths should be done three times a week in the evening before bedtime. After applying any bath, you need to dry your hands, apply cream to them and put on top of cotton gloves for the whole night.

Creams and masks

Creams and masks from chicks

  1. Sour cream mask. Take 100ml oily thick sour cream and mix with one yolk. The resulting mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than a week and applied to hands daily for 30 minutes.
  2. Cucumber-potato lotion. Boil the potatoes and drain the water in a bowl, let cool. Cut the cucumber and rub its juice into the skin of the hands, and then rinse them with potato broth.
  3. Potato mask. Boil one large or two medium potatoes and crush, add 100 ml of sour cream. Apply the resulting mixture to your hands for 20 minutes.
  4. Oil-vitamin. In 50 ml of castor or olive oil, pour a teaspoon of vitamin A and E. Apply the solution on the skin of the hands and leave for 15 minutes, then rinse.

Compress

Grate boiled potatoes on a coarse grater and mix with the juice of half a lemon. Put the resulting mixture on hands, wrap it with plastic wrap and put on warm gloves. Wash off the mixture after 20 minutes.

Prevention

It is much easier to prevent the appearance of chicks in your hands than to fight them. In order to prevent the appearance of unwanted peeling, cracks and itching, it is worth observing the following rules:

  1. When the temperature drops, always wear gloves on your hands. The stronger the frosts, the warmer this item of clothing should be. In windy weather, even with fairly warm air, it is better to wear light gloves.
  2. Use a moisturizing or nourishing hand cream. Fortunately, there are a lot of them now and you can choose the right one. There are even special winter options and products for dry skin prone to peeling. The drier the skin, the fatter the cream should be.
  3. Never leave the house or in the draft with wet hands. This also applies to non-absorbed hand cream. First you need to remove the excess cream, pat your hands with a towel and only then go outside, otherwise the cream may act like water.
  4. During home cleaning hands should be in tight household gloves. Even a seemingly harmless dishwashing detergent with glycerin, vitamins and other advertising on the label can dry your skin.
  5. A balanced diet is the main prevention of hypovitaminosis. It must be taken into account that vitamin A, the lack of which causes dry skin, is found in products of animal origin rather than vegetable. Most of it is in the liver.

What are dangerous pimples

Peeling and cracks in the skin of the hands are not just a cosmetic defect, but important symptoms of a violation of the main protective barrier. Through microtrauma, bacteria, viruses and fungi can penetrate deep into the tissues, which cause both local and general diseases.

Infection of the skin surface occurs constantly, but the epidermis does not allow microorganisms to penetrate the bloodstream and spread throughout the body. Even defects invisible to the naked eye can be the entrance gate to infection. This is worth remembering when going outside in cold weather or refusing hand cream. Always follow the rules for the prevention of the appearance of chicks and begin their treatment immediately after the appearance.
