Wet armpits are not a pleasant sight. Anyone who has ever experienced excessive sweating at least once in their life knows how nasty and obsessive this is. The fact is that wet armpits are almost impossible to disguise or hide. Even the most stylish and expensive costume will look untidy if huge wet traces flaunt underarms. Hyperhidrosis is not a sentence. This condition is perfectly treated, the main thing is to find its cause and act comprehensively.
Why do we sweat so much
Sweat secretion is a person’s natural state by which the body responds to some external factors. So, in what situations can sweating increase?
- Heat. In stuffy rooms, in clothes that are too warm, sweat secretion increases several times. In this case, sweat performs its immediate function - normalizes thermoregulation. At all times of the year, you should try to dress according to the weather, during the heat, if possible, be in an air-conditioned room.
- Stress. Well, who is not familiar with the situation when you have to speak to strangers, meet a loved one or worry before an exam? In all these cases, the nervous system works on the brink, so sweat is released very actively. Before important events, you need to try to calm down (if necessary, take a pill). In addition, you should not drink plenty of fluids - it increases the amount of sweat. If you have an important meeting, do not drink hot drinks, do not eat spicy and spicy foods - they also enhance sweating.
- Physical activity. If a person moves a lot, he sweats a lot - this is known to all. Thus, the body copes with increased stress and restores thermoregulation.
- Genes. Scientists have proven that people whose ancestors lived in colder regions sweat much more often. Often, heavy sweating is a hereditary factor.
- Medication. Some medicines have a side effect such as heavy sweating, such as hormonal drugs. This is especially often seen when taking oral contraceptives. If sweating has not passed in the first menstrual cycle - it is worth talking with a doctor and selecting another OK.
- Food and drinks. If you often eat spicy, salty and smoked foods, this can also trigger increased sweating. Regular alcohol consumption worsens the functioning of blood vessels, they become less elastic and a person begins to sweat often and a lot.
- Hormones. Sweating is often observed during hormonal changes in the body - during puberty, during pregnancy, during menopause, after childbirth.
- Diseases Some diseases (for example, endocrine) lead to severe sweating. If there are no obvious reasons for wet armpits (stress, heat), and sweating appears suddenly, this is a serious reason to consult a doctor.
It is very important to know the cause of hyperhidrosis in order to fight not only the consequence, but also the root of the problem.
Hygiene - the basis of dry armpits
In general, sweat is almost transparent and odorless. An unpleasant aroma appears as a result of the multiplication of bacteria and microbes in the armpits. After getting wet, then often the clothes change color - white T-shirts and blouses in the armpit areas turn yellow, blacks acquire a white and faded hue. To avoid this, you must follow basic hygiene rules.
The first and most important rule is that your skin and clothing should always be clean. Shower should be taken at least twice a day. After water procedures, thoroughly wipe the armpit skin and wait until it is completely dry. Only then should a deodorant and antiperspirant be used. The latter, by the way, not only hides an unpleasant odor, but also blocks increased sweating. If standard hygiene products are not suitable for you, you can buy more powerful antiperspirants in the pharmacy that will definitely save you from wet armpits.
Be sure to take a hygiene product with you. Underarm can get wet again during the day and antiperspirant will come in handy. But in no case do not apply it on wet and dirty skin - first it should be wiped with a damp cloth and then dried with paper. Every day you need to wear clean shirts and t-shirts. Even if you "hardly sweated" yesterday.
If you can’t cope with the problem of increased sweating, you can use special overlays on the inside of the clothes. They are thin pads that stick to clothing in the armpit area. If you sweat, the cotton layer will absorb excess moisture and clothes will remain dry.
Often a person sweats if he wears clothes made from non-natural fabrics, for example, synthetics. Fibers of artificial material do not allow air to pass through, the body fades and overheats, and increased sweating begins. Give preference to cotton and linen fabrics - in them you will sweat much less.
Professional treatment of hyperhidrosis
Modern methods of treatment allow us to use various pills, ointments, gels and injections against excessive sweating. If the cause of excessive sweating is stress, tranquilizers with a sedative effect are prescribed. In addition, all patients with hyperhidrosis are prescribed anticholinergics. They provide temporary relief only for the duration of the medication. Unfortunately, you can’t take them constantly - they have a lot of side effects.
In the fight against sweating, calcium channel blockers are also used. There are simpler remedies for increased sweating - Urotropin, Formagel, Formidron. If there is a pronounced unpleasant odor, bactericidal agents are used - boric ointment, etc. In addition, various ointments, powders and gels are actively used. Among the most popular and in demand is Teymurov's paste.
Sometimes hyperhidrosis is treated using physiotherapy, for example, electrophoresis. Low-frequency currents are sent to the nerve endings, which temporarily disrupts their function, as a result of which the work of sweat glands is weakened. The procedure is effective, but short-lived. Increased sweating is also eliminated by surgical intervention. Some types of such operations involve the introduction of Botox under the skin in the armpit area, others interfere with the microscopic work of the sex glands, and others clamp the nerve endings with a tiny clip. Each of these methods has a number of pros and cons. One thing is for sure - any of these procedures costs considerable financial costs. Take your time to despair, there are cheaper and safer ways to deal with hyperhidrosis.
Folk remedies against wet armpits
Here are some simple but extremely effective recipes that will help you in the fight for dry armpit skin.
- Sage, plantain, coltsfoot. Dry plants should be poured with alcohol or vodka and insisted for 10 days. After this, the tincture should be filtered, and then wipe with this composition clean and dry skin twice a day.
- Apple cider vinegar and boric acid. Mix the two ingredients in equal proportions. In order not only to suppress the production of sweat, but also to give the armpits a light pleasant aroma, you can add a few drops of lavender or orange essential oil to the composition. After a shower, the skin should be dried and then wiped with a cotton pad soaked in the prepared liquid. When the liquid is absorbed, sprinkle starch on top - it perfectly dries the skin and does not roll. Perform such manipulations twice a day, and sweat secretions will become less pronounced.
- Citrus. Lemon, grapefruit, mandarin and orange contain in their composition special acids that inhibit the activity of sweat glands. We can say that this is a natural antiperspirant. Just wipe the clean and dry skin of the armpits with a porous crust and let it dry well. In addition to the lack of sweat, you get a pleasant citrus smell.
- Calcium and iron. Often, the increased work of sweat glands occurs due to the lack of these trace elements. To fill the deficit, you should drink a course of calcium and iron-containing drugs.
- Cold and hot shower. Sweat glands can be trained with a contrast shower. Take a shower in the morning and evening, changing its temperature alternately. First, the drop should be insignificant - warm and slightly cool water. When you get used to it, the drop should be sharper. The shower should be directed precisely to the armpit area. Regular visits to baths, saunas, and swimming pools help fight hyperhidrosis.
- Oak bark and walnut leaves. A strong broth should be prepared from the two components and moisten a piece of gauze in it. Apply a compress to the skin of the armpits and leave for 15 minutes. Daily compresses will help you significantly reduce the activity of the sebaceous glands.
Try each of the presented methods - one of them will certainly suit you and help get rid of annoying wet armpits.
In addition to basic measures to combat hyperhidrosis, you need to pay attention to the quality of life. Do more sports, eat healthy foods, follow hygiene, drink vitamins, try to be less nervous and sweating will gradually pass on your own. If all else fails, be sure to see a doctor and ask him about the possible causes of sudden hyperhidrosis.
