The content of the article
Due to their ubiquity, ants have become a real problem for many people. Often anthills are not just next to a person’s dwelling, but also in the room itself in some secluded corner where no one is looking.
Where do these insects come from? It is believed that they were brought back from Ancient Egypt, since in the middle of the XVIII century Karl Linnaeus was provided with several ants found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs. Actually, since then the problem of the ants living in a person’s house has appeared.
Emerging difficulties
- Do not forget that the anthill is a huge nest, divided into several parts that are interconnected by moves. In each part there are 3-4 females that are stably offspring, so when fighting insects, search every corner of your home so that the ant colony does not reborn again, bringing new inconvenience.
- Ants are very tenacious. They adapt easily to changing environmental conditions. Moreover, they are able to adapt to certain types of poisons, which also greatly complicates the process.
Causes of the appearance of insects
Of course, upon seeing such unexpected guests in his home, any person will ask himself: “Where from?” And it is quite logical, because ants just do not fall on your head, you need to look for the root cause.
Ants appear where:
- General cleaning is not carried out or is carried out extremely rarely. These insects feed on leftover food from our table, fallen crumbs, etc., therefore, to avoid the appearance of an ant colony in the house, keep the room clean.
- Heat, because these insects are heat-loving (add the lack of hygiene here - ideal conditions for the existence of a colony).
- Nearby, a struggle is being waged against them, and so they are just looking for a new home. If similar work is carried out in your home, then you should think about the same thing so as not to shelter these small pests.
- There is an anthill on the street, and you just brought insects or their eggs, larvae on the sole.
The correct determination of the cause of the appearance will help you in choosing a method of combating ants and its successful completion.
How to deal with them
If your monastery has flower pots, then ants will undoubtedly settle in them. This will not lead to good: insects will spoil the soil or bite the roots of the plant, which will lead to its death.
The most common way to get rid of ants is to flood their nest.
Pots can be placed in a deep tank or bath so that they are completely standing in the water. If raising the pot does not seem convenient, then you can fill it with water by plugging all openings leading to excess water.
After some time, the ants will begin to leave the soil, the remaining ones will simply choke.
After about half an hour, drain the water and, if possible, transplant the plant into new soil, thoroughly cleaning its roots from the old earth (eggs could remain in it).
Smells Against Ants
Wipe the ant “traces” with garlic or sunflower oil. You can also put something smelling next to their habitat - wormwood, anise, parsley, wild mint, cloves, tomato tops. Ants do not like these smells and will cause their exodus.
Little tricks
- Glue the edges of the pots with adhesive tape or place a saucer of candied water next to it. But this temporary measure will not scare away ants, so in addition, use more radical means.
- The legs of tables or coasters can be wrapped with foil in the manner of a skirt: ants cannot climb over its edge. But do not forget that you need to eliminate the original cause, and not constantly deal with the consequences.
All these methods will work only if, together with the "pot" ants you destroy the entire colony, settled next to your house or directly in it.
When any insects appear, remember that you need to destroy all the foci of their habitat near you, then you do not have to save your plants from the ant invasion over and over again.
