Papilloma is a small growth on the skin, which is also called a papilla, growth or nodule. It has a color similar to the main skin tone, but sometimes it can be much darker. The formation of papillomas is caused by the human papillomavirus, which can live in the body for a very long time. The incubation period can last several years, that is, after infection, papillomas do not appear, since strong immunity inhibits the formation of growths. But when the body weakens for some reason, this leads to the formation of growths on a thin stalk.
Papillomas can form on any part of the human body - even on internal organs. However, most often they are localized on the neck and under the armpits. In general, the papillomas themselves are not dangerous and are a benign formation. However, their location leads to the fact that they can be constantly injured. Under the arms of the papilloma, it is often subjected to friction by the seams of clothes, as well as a possible cutting when shaving hair. All this leads to an inflammatory process. With papilloma, you need to fight according to the rules, otherwise the place of the growth so simply will not heal.
The sizes of the nodules can be different - from 1 mm to 1 cm. They can grow or remain in the same size - it all depends on the state of human immunity. Papillomas can be single or numerous.
Causes of papillomas
As noted, the appearance of papillomas is associated with HPV. But how does it appear in the body?
- The papilloma virus can be transmitted by domestic means - for example, through the wearing of someone else’s clothing or even shaking hands. Especially if the body has open wounds and injuries through which the infection enters the body.
- Very often, HPV is sexually transmitted through unprotected contact.
- You can also get the virus during childbirth. The baby is infected from the mother when passing through the birth canal.
- It is very easy to get HPV in pools and baths, since the virus lives long enough in a humid environment. At the same time, the infected body does not immediately inform you about this, since immunity suppresses the formation of papillomas. Moreover, a person is already a carrier of HPV, without suspecting it.
- The formation of the most papillomas contributes to a decrease in immunity, which can be observed with exacerbation of chronic diseases, with some malfunctions of the endocrine system, during pregnancy, with smoking and drinking alcohol. Immunity can also decrease after infectious diseases.
- Sometimes a hormonal malfunction, which can be caused by taking oral contraceptives, leads to the formation of papillomas.
- Failure to observe personal hygiene can also lead to infection. Using someone else’s towel, sleeping out of bed - these are all risk factors.
It used to be that papillomas are a symbol of old age, and they only appear on the skin of older people. However, it is not. Papillomas often appear in the elderly, because their immunity decreases with age. Nodules can also easily appear in men and women, in the elderly and children, in pregnant women. HPV is independent of a person’s age and gender.
How to get rid of papillomas under the armpits
Papillomas under the armpits bring serious discomfort. Regular friction, sweat, and razor exposure can cause itching and inflammation. It is very important to consult a doctor on time, even if you have only one nodule that does not bother you. The doctor will help you verify the benign nature of the growth - for this, a papilloma biopsy may be necessary. In addition, in rare cases, a more thorough diagnosis may require histological examination or cytological analysis.
You can get rid of papillomas, for this there are many medical procedures. Depending on the number of nodules and their location, the doctor may offer you one of the most suitable treatment options.
- Laser. This is one of the most popular ways to remove papilloma quickly and safely. In addition, after removal by a laser, no marks or scars remain on the skin. The laser beam acts on the base of the papilloma, seals the blood vessels. As a result of this papilloma is left without food and after some time it just falls off. In this case, the laser exposure eliminates blood loss during the procedure, and also does not allow relapse.
- Cryodestruction. This tool is especially suitable for removing papillomas under the armpits. The procedure involves freezing the blood vessels that feed the papilloma with liquid nitrogen. You can delete multiple nodules in one session. Large papillomas usually have to be cauterized several times.
- Radio waves. A special hardware knife emits a beam of ionic radiation, which cuts out the papilloma from adjacent tissues. The method is painless and quite effective. In addition, radio wave removal subsequently allows the transfer of excised tissue for histological examination. The device for removing papillomas by radio waves is called Surgitron.
- Electrocoagulation In this case, cauterization of blood vessels occurs using electrical impulses. Of the disadvantages of the procedure, it can be noted that it is quite painful, sometimes anesthesia is necessary. After this removal of papillomas, small scars may remain.
- Surgical excision. This is a simple surgical excision of papilloma, which is carried out directly by the doctor. The presence or absence of scars after removal depends on the skills and professionalism of the surgeon.
- Chemical moxibustion. Papilloma can be removed with powerful chemical acids. However, this method is currently practically not used, since there are more gentle and painless methods of getting rid of papillomas.
Similar procedures can be performed in the office of a doctor or cosmetologist. However, before this, be sure to see the doctor so that he makes an accurate diagnosis and confirms that it is precisely in your case that it is HPV.
In addition, immunomodulating drugs are prescribed to the patient, which strengthen the immune system and protect against the re-formation of nodules. There are groups of antiviral drugs that are aimed at suppressing the virus itself in the body. Comprehensive therapy is mandatory - medications are taken both inside and outside in the form of gels and ointments. In addition, it is important to identify the reason why the person’s immunity was reduced - if it is a chronic disease, it is brought into remission. If there are bad habits - you need to abandon them. If a decrease in immunity occurred due to the use of oral contraceptives, you should normalize the hormonal background, choose another OK or decide on other methods of contraception. In any case, HPV treatment is a set of measures that will allow you to remove existing papillomas and prevent the formation of new ones.
