Spiders, as a rule, prefer a natural habitat, but may well “make happy” with their presence the owners of private houses or apartments, penetrating into households in search of shelter and food. The ideal way to protect your home from uninvited guests is simply to not let them in by taking appropriate measures. However, if this point is missed, there are many ways to get rid of unpleasant insects.
Preventative measures
If peaceful coexistence with spiders is not part of your plans, then the first thing you should do is to process all the holes and cracks through which insects can enter your home.
For this, a conventional putty is used, with the help of which the gaps in the windows and doors are filled. Torn mosquito nets should be replaced, as arthropods can freely penetrate even through small holes.
If necessary, it is better to turn off the light from the outside - it attracts the attention of not only spiders, but also other insects. Blackout curtains or blinds blocking the lighting in the room will also prevent spiders from succumbing to the temptation to visit you.
Keeping your home clean and tidy is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from an unpleasant neighborhood with spiders. In a perfectly clean room, they simply will have nowhere to hide, even if they accidentally make their way inside. And conversely, the dirtier the house, the more likely it is that the spiders will like it.
Attracted by insects and poorly conducted repairs, and cracks in the ceilings and floors.
You can bring a spider into the house and accidentally, if he clings to his clothes with his tenacious paws.
Since the main food of spiders is other insects (ants, doubletails, mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches), it is necessary to ensure that they do not appear in the home.
To exclude the spread of this misfortune in the house:
- remove leftover food, crumbs and other food waste;
- observe cleanliness, sweep the floor, vacuum the carpets and carry out wet cleaning, including hard-to-reach areas;
- timely disposal of garbage;
- use plastic containers to store things and products.
How to deal with spiders
If the preventive measures did not help or were not fully implemented, do not despair, you can and should fight spiders. And they will help you with this:
- A vacuum cleaner with which you can collect adult spiders, and cobwebs, and bags with laid eggs.
- Traps (adhesive strips), which should be placed horizontally and thrown away as soon as several spiders get into it. However, this method will help get rid of only adults.
- A brush that sweeps insects and cobwebs.
- Wet cleaning. The rag that was used must be burnt, since thousands of insect eggs can be laid in the web.
- Intexicides. They spray corners and crevices. Before use, you need to carefully read the instructions to reduce the risk of poisoning people and pets. However, it is important to understand the capabilities of chemical agents, if aerosol spraying has not occurred at the places of direct accumulation of insects, then the poison will not work on them.
- "Whisk" from reed reeds or stems. If you walk it in all corners of the apartment, there will be no trace of spiders.
If you are unable to cope on your own, you can resort to the help of specialists by contacting the appropriate organization. A professional, having treated the room with chemical pesticides, will clean the house of spiders, but the special tools are very powerful, so you can’t stay in the room for several days to avoid poisoning.
Some owners prefer a humane way to get rid of spiders - transportation, simply sweeping insects into the street.
Folk ways to fight spiders
To date, there are many popular ways of controlling insects that have been successfully used by our grandmothers.
Spiders are very afraid of chestnuts. Break the nuts, arrange them in the places where insects accumulate, and soon there will be no trace of them. There are no scientific explanations why insects cannot tolerate chestnuts, but the fact remains that this tool is very effective.
It helps against spiders and peppermint oil. Add 20 drops of oil to water, mix and pour liquid into a spray bottle. Spray the solution in the corners and crevices of the house, especially in front of the entrance. Or soak a cotton swab in oil and wipe all corners, cracks and places of possible accumulation of spiders.
If there is no peppermint oil, then it can be replaced with tea tree oil, lemon or eucalyptus oil, they have a similar effect.
In basements and other non-residential premises, which spiders have chosen for themselves, you can process the walls and ceiling with lime or paint, the smells of paint and whitewashing are categorically not liked by insects.
Vinegar is the main enemy of spiders. Mix water and vinegar in equal parts, pour the mixture into a container with a spray. Spray all surfaces of the room and directly on insects, they will not tolerate a vinegar attack. Saucers with vinegar can be placed in the corners. No less than vinegar spiders hate the smells of lemon and tobacco.
If you like animals, get a cat. A huntress by nature, she will catch spiders with great excitement.
Spiders cannot cause harm to humans, unless of course we are talking about poisonous species. However, few people will like the presence of unpleasant multi-legged creatures in the house, even if they cope perfectly well with the task of killing flies and mosquitoes. Moreover, some people are panicky afraid of them. Now that you know the measures to combat these insects, it will not be difficult for you to get rid of uninvited guests.
