How to get rid of scoliosis at home

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that has non-physiological bends. Scoliosis can be C-, S-, Z-shaped, depending on the shape of the curvature. Severe deformation of the spinal column leads to asymmetry of the hips, shoulders and shoulder blades. Scoliosis can occur in both children and adults. Most often, this disease is diagnosed in adolescence. About 10% of all adolescents have scoliosis of varying degrees. But only 1 percent of them require therapeutic treatment. However, it is impossible to turn a blind eye to scoliosis. With the correct correction of living conditions and an integrated approach, scoliosis can be eliminated.

How to recognize scoliosis

Scoliosis develops gradually and may not be noticeable even to the most attentive parents. It is worth paying attention to the child if he is stooping, if the head is always slightly tilted in the same direction. Protruding or asymmetrical shoulder blades are not normal. Obvious scoliosis is observed with asymmetries of the shoulders, hips, and waist. In adolescent girls, asymmetry may be in the area of the mammary glands. The chest can be deformed, the child rests more on one leg. Scoliosis in a child can be recognized as follows: you need to stand upright, heels together, socks apart. The child should bend over without bending the knees. Normally, the back should form a smooth arc. In scoliosis, the right and left sides are asymmetrical when viewed from the back. Also, with this disease, it is difficult for the child to stand or sit for a long time.

Diagnosing scoliosis is a long task. First, the doctor conducts an examination and performs physical tests, in which the patient must undergo on toes, in heels, to make several characteristic movements. Then an X-ray, MRI, and curvature are taken using a scoliograph. Depending on all these data, the type and severity of the disease is established.

Causes of scoliosis in children and adults

Scoliosis in children most often develops as a result of a sedentary lifestyle, a weak muscle corset, and improper body position. A lack of vitamins can cause flexibility and brittle bones, rickets. Scoliosis can occur due to various injuries and deformations of the ribs and spine. Diseases of the neuromuscular system (for example, cerebral palsy) can also become a risk factor. Sometimes scoliosis appears during prolonged classes in certain sports - for example, tennis, badminton, javelin and nucleus throwing, where both hands are involved unevenly. Playing the violin can give the same effect. Adult scoliosis in most cases is the same childhood illness that, over the years, stands still or develops.

Degree of scoliosis

Scoliosis is divided into degrees depending on the severity of the disease.

  1. First degree - The lightest and usually not visible to the patient himself or to others. This deviation from the axis is less than 10 degrees. It is often considered the norm, since people in most cases are asymmetric. When diagnosing first-degree scoliosis in a child, physical exercises are prescribed, usually this is enough.
  2. Second degree of scoliosis - This is a deviation from the norm by 10-25 degrees. This degree requires urgent correction to stop the progression of curvature. In this case, you can carry out home treatment for scoliosis, but under the supervision of an experienced orthopedist.
  3. Third degree of scoliosis - These are pronounced changes in the spinal column, characterized by 25-50 degrees of curvature. This is a serious pathology that requires wearing a bandage and corset.
  4. Fourth degree of scoliosis - curvature of more than 50 degrees. This degree is quite rare and is almost always accompanied by muscular-neurological diseases.

Depending on the degree of development of scoliosis, you need to properly approach the methods of treating the disease.

Physical therapy against scoliosis

In the first degree of scoliosis, the child must be given to the sports section to strengthen his muscular corset. When curving the spine, it is best to go skiing, gymnastics. Every morning, the patient should do exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles. You need to try to lead an active lifestyle. At school, you need to move more during breaks, do a light workout, since sitting at a desk is a serious test for a sick spine.

An adult who has scoliosis and has sedentary work should take regular breaks. An exercise is very effective, in which you need to stand with your back to the wall and press against it with both shoulder blades. Good exercises on the horizontal bar, therapeutic exercises, Pilates, classes on fitball. Adults benefit from going to the gym and under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Here are a few therapeutic exercises for scoliosis that you can perform at home.

Physical therapy against scoliosis

  1. Stand up straight, feet shoulder width apart, hands in the castle in front of the eyes. Slowly pull your head up as if you want to look out for your hands. Keep your neck extended for several seconds. Then slowly turn it to the right, and then to the left.
  2. Stand straight and keep your head to the side. Try to see the heel of the opposite leg. That is, if we turn our heads to the left, we try to fix our gaze on the right heel and vice versa. We especially train the side that is “tight”. The movements should be slow and smooth.
  3. Direct stand, hands at the seams. Carefully squeeze and unclench the shoulder blades, moving them to the spine, then in different directions.
  4. Get on all fours and carefully arch your back like a cat. Hold your back in this position, and then bend it in the opposite direction, forming an arc. Movements should be slow, you need to feel your muscles.
  5. Stand on all fours and simultaneously raise your right foot and left arm. Try to lean your limbs as far back as you can while arching your back. Do not forget to work out the opposite side.
  6. Lie on your back, stretch your arms to the continuation of the body. Stretch your spine as if you want to stretch it in length. Fix in such a tense state for three seconds, rest for 15 seconds and repeat the exercise.

How to get rid of scoliosis at home

Here are the basic steps you need to take to get your spine in order.

  1. Furniture. It is very important to pay attention to the objects that surround you. The chair and table for a patient with scoliosis should correspond to his height so that the person does not stoop and does not sit at the table with raised shoulders. It is very important to sleep on a hard bed - the mattress should be thin.
  2. Massage. This is a good way to increase blood circulation in the back. However, amateurs in this matter can not only be useless - sometimes they only worsen the situation. Massage with scoliosis should only be done by an experienced specialist, better a manual therapist.
  3. Swimming. This is one of the best physical activities, which is very useful for scoliosis. In water, the body weighs much less, the spine experiences less stress. The vertebrae and muscles are thus straightened and developed. Daily hourly sailing and aqua aerobics can even correct serious curvatures.
  4. Physiotherapy. It consists in various ways of influencing weak and atrophied muscles of the back. After such an effect, the blood supply to the tissues improves, and a muscle corset is formed. Electrophoresis is the stimulation of muscles by low-frequency currents that contract muscle fibers and make them work. Also, with scoliosis, UHF therapy, Charcot's douche, laser, magnets, electrical stimulation are used.
  5. Food. It is very important that the body receives daily the right dose of calcium, which is able to support weak bones. Remember, calcium is taken with vitamin D3, which cannot be absorbed without it.

Remember that the treatment of scoliosis is a complex event. Acting in all directions, you can not only prevent the development of the disease, but also completely cure it.

With scoliosis, it is very important to make a diagnosis every six months regularly. If scoliosis progresses, more serious methods of exposure are usually used - wearing a corset, a bandage, surgical intervention. A disease is much easier to defeat if you control it!
