Of course, in our time, aluminum cookware is replaced by non-stick cookware and stainless materials, but in every second kitchen there is a good old aluminum pan. In them, our grandmothers also made various preparations for the winter, and now we hardly use them. But if you still fished out an aluminum pan from the bins of the kitchen cabinet and found that it is not in the best condition, you need to clean it before use. How? Let's get it right.
How aluminum pans are used
Aluminum by its nature has some very unpleasant properties that significantly limit the usefulness of dishes in everyday life.
- Firstly, this material interacts strongly with various organic acids, so in no case do not cook soups and cereals in aluminum pans. They will turn sour in just a few hours, causing you problems in the form of an unpleasant pungent odor and a spoiled vessel.
- Secondly, aluminum utensils are good for cooking jam, stewed fruit and other billets in it, which involve rolling into cans and further long-term storage. But again, it is not recommended to leave the cooked in the pan: it will not turn sour as quickly as in the first case, but it can still deteriorate.
- Thirdly, before using an aluminum pan (to avoid unpleasant consequences), be sure to boil water in it with the addition of salt. Proportions: 1 teaspoon of salt in 5 teaspoons of water.
- Fourth, do not forget that the dishes from this material do not have a non-stick coating, so if you get distracted, the food will start to burn, to settle on the walls of the pan with black soot, which can be extremely difficult to wash. The outer surface also gets black due to contact with a gas or electric burner.
- And fifth, do not just try to “scrape off” the soot. Read the tips below and you will keep your dishes intact and pristine.
How to get rid of carbon deposits
Since it happened, and soot still appeared on the walls of an aluminum pan, do not put off washing it in a long drawer: do not wash it at all. Get down to business right away!
Here are some ways to help your dishes shine:
- Soaking in soapy water. The method is suitable for relatively light soot and in the case of your quick reaction to it. Usually, after soaking, minimal effort is enough to rid the walls of the pan of black color: just wipe them with a hard sponge. If it does not help, then move on to the next method.
- Wash with soda. The traditional easy way to get rid of black plaque on the walls of aluminum utensils. Usually it’s enough to rub the bowl with a hard sponge and soda for a while, so that the soot starts to move away. If this does not happen, boil the dishes in a large container (basin or bucket) by adding a glass of soda to the water.
- For lack of soda, you can resort to using ordinary table salt. If the contamination is inside, boil a strong saline solution until the soot begins to “peel off” from the walls. If outside - boil the pot in a deep container with the addition of a large amount of salt.
- Citric acid used for preserving vegetables will also help in cleaning carbon deposits from dishes. To do this, boil in a pan such an amount of water that it covers the "blackness", add 2 tablespoons of lemons to it and boil for 10-15 minutes. After that, wash the dishes under running water using a special product.
- 9% vinegar.They pour the dishes with carbon and stand for 2-3 hours, after which they wash the pan with a hard sponge under running water.
Laundry soap 72%. It is added in certain proportions to the above funds to improve the effect:
- in soda - ½ piece;
- in vinegar - ½ piece;
It is also combined with PVA glue in the ratio: 1/3 of a soap bar (grate into shavings) and 1 tablespoon of glue per 4 liters of water. Boil the resulting solution.
Special chemical cleansers. For instance:
- Shumanit is a rather aggressive solution, but very effective;
- Chister is also aggressive, but not so effective. The advantage is cheap;
- Amway - inferior in effectiveness to Schumanit, but not so aggressive in cleaning properties.
Use these funds strictly according to the instructions in order to avoid unpleasant consequences!
In order not to encounter unpleasant soot, try not to be distracted while cooking in aluminum utensils. And, of course, do not cook in it something that will certainly leave its mark on the inside. But if the deposit appeared - do not be discouraged and immediately take up cleaning the pan, then the dishes will serve you for a very long time!
