How to Clean Suede at Home

Suede is a beautiful, elegant and noble material from which various products are made. Outerwear, shoes, bags, gloves and other accessories made of suede have a special sophistication. But for the material to look expensive and presentable, you need to be able to properly care for it.

How to clean suede from dirt

Suede gloves, shoes, bag handles, coat cuffs are often dirty, so they need to be cleaned on time. Completely wetting suede products is not recommended.

1. Dampen a soft brush in soapy water and gently walk through the contaminated area. If you are cleaning gloves, it is most convenient to put them on your hand. If you are cleaning your coat, hang it on your shoulders. When cleaning your bag or shoes, for convenience, you can stuff the product with a towel or newspaper.
2. When you manage the dirt, wipe the suede with a clean, damp cloth several times to clean it of soap.
3. In a liter of clean water, add a tablespoon of glycerin and mix thoroughly. Wipe suede with this compound so that the material does not become coarse after drying.
4. Squeezing the product is not worth it, otherwise the villi may dry out in the wrong order. Just gently pat the surface with a dry towel and let the product dry. Suede should not be dried in direct sunlight or near a heater.
5. If after drying you notice that the suede has become rough and stiff, try to stretch the villi with your hands or “comb” them with a soft comb.

If you decide to wash the suede skirt or vest in the washing machine, select the delicate washing mode with a minimum number of turns. As a detergent, it is necessary to choose gentle powders and gels, without dye and bleach. After washing, be sure to straighten the product by hand and stretch it a little before drying so that it does not lose shape.

How to Clean Suede from Stains

How often do we have to clean products from stains, which require an individual approach. In our case, this is aggravated by the fact that stubborn stains must be removed delicately so as not to leave a mark on a delicate suede coating.

1. Greasy spots. Sometimes greasy, shabby stains may appear on suede products from long wear and insufficient care. To get rid of them, you need to process them with an ordinary eraser, which children use at school. After that, you need to clean the suede in the usual way - soapy water. Greasy spots as well as adhering nap can be brought to life with steam. Substitute the product under the steam and rub it with a brush to raise the small fibers. After drying, the suede coat will look updated.
2. Greasy oil stains. If there are greasy marks on the products, then the effectiveness of their removal depends on your response. After all, fresh stains are much easier to remove than old stains. Sprinkle a greasy stain on the stain and leave overnight. During this time, starch absorbs excess fat and cleans the coating as much as possible. Then you need to clean the products in the usual way, but instead of soap it is better to use a dishwashing detergent. It contains special substances that can effectively fight fat.
3. Paint stains. To clean suede from paint stains, you will need gasoline or thinner. Dip a piece of gauze in gasoline and apply a cloth to the stain. Leave for half an hour. Carefully clean the coating of softened paint and change a piece of gauze every 20 minutes. After the suede coating is completely cleaned, it must be washed with soapy water and rinsed thoroughly. To get rid of the smell of gasoline, wipe the product with acetic water.When the vinegar disappears, you will not feel any smell.
4. Blood stains. If blood has got on the suede surface, immediately rinse the product under water so that the suede does not absorb a complex stain. It is impossible to remove blood with a stain remover - suede can change color in this place. Rinse off the blood should only be cold water. Rinse the blood stains thoroughly with a brush and soap. If, after drying, you find the remains of a blood stain on the surface, it can be removed using the smallest sandpaper.
5. Salt stains. Very often, salt leaks remain on the sediment on the suede surface. They can be eliminated with vinegar or lemon juice. Dissolve the juice of one lemon in a glass of water and wipe your thing with this compound. There is no need to rinse the product - just dry it and “comb” it.
6. Old spots. Old stubborn spots are quite difficult to remove, however, for such cases there is an effective recipe. Dissolve a teaspoon of soda and the same amount of ammonia in half a glass of skim milk. Soak a cotton pad in the prepared composition and attach to a contaminated surface. This is a fairly aggressive recipe that can ruin thin suede. Therefore, before basic cleaning, apply a little bit of the product on the inside of the product to check the coating reaction. If the treated section of suede has not lost its color, you can use the cleansing compound as intended.

How to care for suede

So that there are no questions about how to clean suede from various contaminants, you need to take care of the material on time and properly. Immediately after acquiring a suede product, cover it with a special water-repellent composition that will save the delicate surface from moisture.

Products made of light suede are so beautiful that it is difficult to refuse them. However, their minus is their defenselessness. To clear light suede from various stains, you can use hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. In a small bowl of water, dissolve a teaspoon of ammonia and the same amount of hydrogen peroxide. Such a composition gently cleans suede, preserving the color of the product.

After each fall-winter season, you need to dry suede clothes and shoes in the open air for several hours. Jackets and coats are best twisted so that the sun's rays do not fall on a suede surface. It is best to store suede products in sealed bags so that the moth does not spoil the thing. If you took out suede clothes after long-term storage, and it has creases and folds, you can update it as follows. Mix water and milk in equal proportions, add a little glycerin and pour this liquid into the spray bottle. Spray the composition onto clothes suspended from a coat hanger. With a soft brush, straighten the villi and smooth out the folds with your hands. This method will soften capricious suede, and make the product look like new.

Never sprinkle suede with salt - it eats firmly into the surface and makes it coarse and stiff. Regularly and promptly clean suede products from contamination.
