Chrysanthemums are considered to be unique plants that can dilute the interior and cheer up. In addition to the extraordinary beauty, the flowers are quite a long time, but only if you do not neglect the basic options for care and follow practical recommendations. As a rule, cut chrysanthemums are placed in a vase with water, but not everyone knows that it is possible to prepare a healing solution for plants. Consider the important aspects in order, highlight key points.
How to keep a bouquet of chrysanthemums in a vase
- After delivery of the beautiful bouquet to the destination, take care of its safety. To do this, take a sharp knife with a thick blade, cut the stems diagonally (obliquely). Important! It is worth remembering forever that you can cut off on a tangent only completely blossoming plants. Chrysanthemums do not belong to the type of flowers that open in the water, as is the case with roses, peonies, tulips, etc.
- Choose a suitable vase for chrysanthemums, the neck should not be too narrow or, conversely, wide. The best option is a hole that is 2 times the width of the stems assembled together.
- Inspect the lower part of each stem, clean it from spoiled and dried leaves. If possible, remove even green leaves so that they do not interfere with the plant's absorption of fluid. After that, pre-cut the ends of the chrysanthemums cut with a cross along the stem for better absorption of water. Take each section to the side, as if the plant had roots.
- Fill the vase exactly halfway with filtered water at room temperature. Place flowers, make sure that each stem is immersed in liquid. Send the vase to a bright place away from direct ultraviolet and heating radiators. The optimal temperature regime is considered to be an indicator of 19-20 degrees, not more.
- Change the water and clean the vase from the mucus component every 1.5-2 days. Trim the tips of the stem by 0.5-1 cm. In every second update of the liquid. In this case, do not forget to make a cross-shaped incision for better preservation of the bouquet. Under such conditions, flowers cost about 15-20 days without withering.
- As for the specific place for installing the vase, give preference to a table or bedside table in a room where there are no drafts. Also avoid placing chrysanthemums next to fruit baskets or berries, send the fruits a little further.
What to add to water for the preservation of chrysanthemums
In flower shops you can buy special preparations that will give flowers a “second life”. If it is not possible to use such means, consider alternative methods.
- Take 1 tablet of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), fill it with 2 liters. filtered water at room temperature, wait for the drug to dissolve. The solution is considered especially relevant in cases where the chrysanthemums have dried up or are just beginning to wilt.
- Pour 0.5 liters of purified water into a vase, add half a teaspoon of crushed salt (preferably sea). Wait for the crystals to dissolve, then place the flowers in the container.
- Add 0.003% lapis to a vase of water, which can be purchased at a flower shop. The drug will not only breathe in a “second life” in chrysanthemums, but also extend the shelf life up to 3-4 weeks.
- Before sending flowers to a vase, dilute 25 g in water. granulated sugar (cane or beetroot), wait until the granules are completely dissolved. Pour sugar at the rate of 25 gr. 0.5 l product water.
- If you bought a bouquet of chrysanthemums in advance, do not rush to put it in water.Soak newspaper or album sheets in saline, wrap flowers and plant stems. Send chrysanthemums to the vegetable compartment, which is located at the bottom of the refrigerator.
- As mentioned earlier, chrysanthemums do not belong to those flowers that unfold in water. To cause the opening of the buds artificially, purchase in the flower shop the preparation "Bud No. 2". Prepare it in water according to the instructions, do not violate the proportions.
- Dilute potassium permanganate crystals in water so that the liquid turns a pale pink. Put flowers in the container, take the vase to a room with a temperature regime of 19-20 degrees.
- An excellent restoring effect is exerted by stearin, which must be dripped directly into the flowers themselves. Tilt the candle over the inflorescence, wait for the moment until the drop falls into the core. Manipulate each chrysanthemum separately.
- There are frequent cases when, subject to all storage conditions, chrysanthemums still fade. First you need to lower the previously trimmed plant stem into very cold water, and then wait two minutes. Next, the stems are immersed in hot water for another minute. At the end of the period, it is necessary to cut off the damaged areas and put the flowers in a sugar solution at room temperature.
To prolong the life of chrysanthemums, it is enough to choose the optimal temperature regime of water and premises. In this case, you can prepare a solution based on potassium permanganate, aspirin, sea salt, lapis or sugar.
