A bit of cashmere history
Cashmere is a very thin woolen fabric, soft and gentle to the touch. As a material for its creation, fluff combed from the undercoat of a special goat breed is used. By the way, animals are called cashmere, they live in the northern regions of India, as well as China, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Pakistan. The name of the breed of goats and fabric was given by the Kashmir region. Her story is also quite interesting. Now this territory can not be divided between India and Pakistan, although initially it belonged to the Himalayan principalities.
In general, natural cashmere - the material is not only light and very warm, but also incredibly expensive. The fact is that the technology of its extraction is still manual. Goats are combed out or sometimes plucked only in the spring, during active molting. At the same time, the extracted fluff is incredibly thin, about 2-3 times thinner than human hair.
A hat-type product will take out material combed from about 4-5 goats. The fabric is also made by hand. Sewing one coat takes a huge amount of not only cashmere, but also labor, so the price is appropriate. Another circumstance is important. They tried to breed cashmere goats in other areas, for example, in the same place where jersey wool known to everyone is produced, and the process itself was successful. Except for one but. The climate was so dramatically different from the usual animals that even though they felt normal, the fluff became completely different. Therefore, true cashmere is produced only in India, Mongolia and Pakistan.
Today, most often, the term refers to other fabrics made on the basis of cotton or silk threads. Woolen fiber is added to their composition, but the properties and effect are no longer the same. Products from real, natural cashmere, not only look amazing and very comfortable to use, but also stand decently. That is why it is important to properly care for them.
The Basics of Proper Cashmere Care
The basics of care are in only 5 aspects: washing, drying, ironing, storage and sock. Briefly dwell on each.
- Washing. Any thing is covered up, soiled and, sooner or later, needs to be washed. Such a procedure with a cashmere coat should be carried out approximately every 8 outlets so that the presentation is not lost. We will dwell on this aspect in more detail below.
- Drying. Such delicate things are dried only in a horizontal position, laying terry towels under them to remove all excess liquid. There is another rule: never squeeze! If you act so cruelly with a cashmere coat, all the fibers in it will tear and the look will be lost forever. They straightened the wet thing, laid it out on towels, away from any artificial heat source - and that’s all. Drying should only be natural.
- Ironing. Despite the increased delicacy of the fabric, some models of cashmere coats can be ironed. In order to do this correctly, use minimal heating of the iron, as well as wet gauze placed on top of the thing. Iron only from the inside out! The use of steam is encouraged, but again, at a minimum temperature.By the way, steam prevents the formation of spools on the surface of the coat.
- Storage. It is clear that such capricious clothes should be properly stored. First, the coat should hang in a closet that is completely protected from moth attacks. Cashmere is easily destroyed by this insect. Secondly, hang on a coat hanger, after having straightened each fold. Remember that such a coat can not be constrained by anything, otherwise it can form an indispensable hall. And finally, only clean and absolutely dry things should be sent for storage.
- Wear. Cashmere is not recommended to be worn constantly, which makes it quickly heal. After being dressed in a coat, remove it, lay it on the table, horizontally, spreading every detail. Having stayed in this position for a day, the clothes will become as good as new. Any spools must be removed immediately, otherwise the wool will fall off, and it will not work to get rid of the defect. And one more important rule: never use perfume directly on cashmere. Perfume should be applied to the body literally 15 minutes before you put on the thing.
Well, now, as promised, we will tell you in detail about the features of washing a cashmere coat.
