Once these fruits were grown in China so that only the imperial family could eat it.

How to eat pomelo fruit

Entire plantations of pomelo trees are located in Vietnam and Japan, China and Thailand, India and Indonesia, and are supplied in large quantities to European countries. Due to the fact that the fruit has a rather thick crust, and between it and the pulp is located, a significant white layer of loose consistency, the fruits are reliably preserved during long-term transportation.

There is a wide variety of pomelo varieties. They differ in various shades and colors of the pulp - from white to saturated pink. The taste is also excellent - sour, sweet and sour or sweet. But all the fruits are related by one main advantage - they are all fragrant, unusually tasty and healthy, as they contain many vitamins and minerals. With pleasure, the fruits are boldly eaten by children and adults. Who in the diet this citrus has become habitual already knows how to choose it, clean and serve it.

Choices: Tips

Before the pomelo is on the table, it is necessary to choose the right fruit at the point of sale.

When buying, you should pay attention to:

  1. The appearance of citrus. If there are dents or damage on it, it is not recommended to take it. The uneven skin color is worrying.
  2. The softness of the peel. If it is hard, it means that the fruit is unripe, the best fruit is considered to be the one that is slightly pressed through when pressed.
  3. The smell that comes from the broomstick. High-quality fruit exudes an elusive pleasant aroma, unlike spoiled with a pungent unpleasant odor.
  4. A trace left if lightly pressed on the fruit. You should not buy one on which, when pressed, a noticeable dent remains.

How to clean correctly

Juicy tasty pulp of the fruit - this is the part for which the broom is bought. But it is hidden behind a rather thick peel, in addition, it is also divided with the help of leathery membranes into numerous segments.

It’s almost impossible to clean the broom with your hands, unless, of course, such a strong man as Dmitry Khaladzhi takes up the matter. Usually people use a knife.

The peel does not belong to the edible parts of the fetus, so it must be removed. Fans of pomelo are advised to pour boiling water over the fruit for a faster separation, in this case the benefit will be two-sided:

  1. The peel will become softer and more obedient.
  2. A special wax is quickly removed from the surface, which protects the fruits from the invasion of infection and spoilage during long-term transportation.

In any case, the pomelo must be washed before cleaning and eating.

There are several methods for peeling. All of them are carried out with a knife, but very carefully so that the delicious juice is preserved and does not leak:

Vertical. For convenience, the upper parts are primarily removed from both sides. Then with a knife in several parts from top to bottom along the fruit - vertically - make shallow cuts, and then the individual cut pieces of the peel will remain easy to separate. A thick white layer will also need to be removed - it is not edible. In order to get rid of it, it is necessary to separate the slices, cut a layer from each in a narrow part, then the layer will be easy to pull off, starting from the bottom. A dense leathery film will also be superfluous during meals, so it must be removed.

Spiral. In this case, you need to work a little harder. An incision should be made from top to bottom in a spiral.Having finished the incision, it remains to pry off the incised peel, and it will easily move away. Then it will remain to separate the white layer, disassembling the broomstick into segments, removing the leathery membrane-films.

There are small bones inside the pulp. They are not eaten. For food, only juicy pulp with a high juice content is left. It is not recommended to sprinkle slices of pomelo with sugar. It is believed that this sweet product significantly affects the taste of the pomelo, kills its true taste.

It is preferable to clean the pomelo in a deep container. Then, if juice flows when cutting, it can be saved.

Storage

After the pomelo is peeled, the fruit should not be stored for more than a week, but still fresh and tasty this citrus remains no more than three days.

If the pomelo needs to be kept unpeeled, it is better to keep it in a cool place for a month. For better safety, there is such a proven method: wrap in food paper, but first grease it with plenty of vegetable oil.
