An evergreen pomelo tree gives people a tasty and juicy fruit, which is called a pomelo. He has other names - pompelmus or sheddock. Moreover, the fruit was called a Sheddock not by chance, but in memory of Captain Sheddock, who brought the seeds of this plant in the 17th century from the Malay archipelago. Once these fruits were grown in China so that only the imperial family could eat it.
Entire plantations of pomelo trees are located in Vietnam and Japan, China and Thailand, India and Indonesia, and are supplied in large quantities to European countries. Due to the fact that the fruit has a rather thick crust, and between it and the pulp is located, a significant white layer of loose consistency, the fruits are reliably preserved during long-term transportation.

How to clean correctly

There are several methods for peeling. All of them are carried out with a knife, but very carefully so that the delicious juice is preserved and does not leak:
Vertical. For convenience, the upper parts are primarily removed from both sides. Then with a knife in several parts from top to bottom along the fruit - vertically - make shallow cuts, and then the individual cut pieces of the peel will remain easy to separate. A thick white layer will also need to be removed - it is not edible. In order to get rid of it, it is necessary to separate the slices, cut a layer from each in a narrow part, then the layer will be easy to pull off, starting from the bottom. A dense leathery film will also be superfluous during meals, so it must be removed.
Spiral. In this case, you need to work a little harder. An incision should be made from top to bottom in a spiral.Having finished the incision, it remains to pry off the incised peel, and it will easily move away. Then it will remain to separate the white layer, disassembling the broomstick into segments, removing the leathery membrane-films.
It is preferable to clean the pomelo in a deep container. Then, if juice flows when cutting, it can be saved.
Storage
After the pomelo is peeled, the fruit should not be stored for more than a week, but still fresh and tasty this citrus remains no more than three days.
If the pomelo needs to be kept unpeeled, it is better to keep it in a cool place for a month. For better safety, there is such a proven method: wrap in food paper, but first grease it with plenty of vegetable oil.
