Finally, you became the owner of a mink coat. Of course, you took such an expensive purchase seriously and chose a quality fur product. Now, in order for the fur coat to serve you for more than a dozen years, because such things never go out of style, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules of wearing, care and storage in the summer.
When can I wear a fur coat
Some weather conditions can greatly spoil the appearance of the mink and make the coat ugly and cold. Pay attention to the bans warned by manufacturers:
- In wet weather, the fur can become very thin. Therefore, do not wear the product in the rain, and if you accidentally fall under it, be sure to open the umbrella.
- A strong wind also affects the appearance of a fur coat. He will fray a fur that will lose its luster and smoothness.
- If your fur coat reaches the floor, then you can’t walk on it on roads treated with chemicals. The fur will peel off from this and will have to do its reconstruction.
- The sun's rays badly affect the appearance and quality of natural fur. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation will lead to the fading of color and the drying of the mink.
- Do not be in a fur coat in public transport, especially at rush hour. Constant contact with other passengers will lead to the appearance of bald patches.
- Do not smother the fur with toilet or perfume water. It quickly absorbs aromas and holds them for a long time. But over time, they will turn into unpleasant odors, which will be difficult to get rid of.
If it happens that your fur coat is very wet, gently pat it with a cloth and hang it on your shoulders. Do not blow the mink fur with a hairdryer, above a fire and do not place on heaters. Genuine leather from these manipulations will lose all thermal properties, and the thing will have to be thrown out.
For daily care, buy a mink brush. Before you put the product in the closet, go through the fur, smoothing it. When you see a pollution or stain, try to get rid of it right away. There should be enough space in the cabinet so that the fur coat hangs freely and the fur is not wrinkled.
Another valuable piece of advice that is useful to every owner of a product made of natural fur - do not carry bags on your shoulder or elbow. Friction on the handle will cause the hair to break off, resulting in bald patches.
How to prepare a fur coat for the summer season
So that after the end of the summer season, the fur coat has the same appearance as before, it must be properly prepared for storage. If the sleeves and collar are jammed, then return the product to dry cleaning. The same must be done when stains and dirt are detected. When you get the fur coat back, follow these steps:
- hang the unfastened product on your shoulders in a well-ventilated dark place, for example, on a glazed balcony;
- after a few days, comb the fur with a special brush;
- fasten buttons and hooks and straighten all folds;
- put it in a natural fabric cover so that the fur “breathes” during storage.
Now you are faced with a new problem: choosing a place to store a mink coat. To solve it correctly, you need to know which conditions are suitable and which are not for natural fur.
How to clean mink fur from stains
Sometimes it happens to detect small dirt on your favorite fur coat. So that every time you do not wear it in dry cleaning, you can try to get rid of stains in folk ways. But first, test them on the inside of the product to avoid unpleasant surprises.
Try cleaning the fur with a soapy solution. To do this, pour a little water into the basin and add shampoo. Stir well until foamy.Take a sponge, gently wipe the fur first with soapy water and then clean. Shake the fur coat, comb the fur and wait until it dries.
If you are afraid to wet the product, then use dry starch. Sprinkle a spot of contamination on them and leave for 30 minutes. Then gently rub the fur and brush off the starch residue with a brush. You can do the same with talcum powder if it is in your home.
Get sawdust from oak or maple in the pet store and moisten them with a little alcohol. Scatter over the entire coat and rub lightly into the fur. If there is a lot of dust and dirt on the product, wait a few minutes. After shake off the sawdust and comb the fur.
Where to store a fur coat in the summer
Many dry cleaners offer the service of storing fur products during the summer period. For your fur coat this will be the best option. Special equipment maintains optimal temperature and humidity to keep the fur fresh and warm. There you can insure the product against damage.
But not everyone can afford this pleasure. Therefore, you have to adapt a cabinet or a balcony for a fur coat. In order not to spoil the fur product, you will have to observe the following conditions:
- Find a dark, cool and dry place. The temperature in it should be from 0 to 10 degrees, and humidity not higher than 50 percent.
- Hang the coat on the shoulders, exactly matching the size of the product, otherwise creases and folds will appear that will be difficult to straighten.
- Put on her a cover that lets oxygen through.
- Prepare bags of dried herbs, put them in pockets and hang around. Lavender, zest from a lemon or an orange helps scare away a moth.
- Do not use moth sprays, they affect the quality of the fur.
- Once every 60 days, the fur coat needs to be removed, shaken and ventilated.
Please note that the product should not be next to other things, but hang at a distance from them. Make sure that sunlight does not get on it and there are no heating appliances nearby. Failure to comply with these conditions will definitely lead to damage to the fur coat made of natural fur.
How to protect a fur coat from moths
The worst nightmare of any owner of a mink product is a moth. She can ruin a fur coat so that nothing will save her and she will have to buy a new one. To avoid this, follow the advice of furriers:
- To prevent the moth from moving from other clothes to the fur coat, purchase a separate wardrobe for it.
- Buy a cover for fur products impregnated with insects and other small pests.
- Many manufacturers of insect repellents produce lines that protect natural fur products. They are safe for mink, if used according to the instructions.
- As a preventative measure, immediately after purchase and every few weeks, put the fur coat in the cold or put it in a freezer for a couple of hours, where the temperature is below 10 degrees. All living organisms that have time to settle in it will die.
- Destroying an adult moth is easier than a larva. To get rid of the embryos, use a fumigator with special plates.
- When the moth is already wound up, and you find it on the fur, there remains only the treatment with a special spray. Buy a product suitable for mink in the store and carefully treat the entire surface and seams on the fur coat with it. Put it in a case and leave it for a few days. After this, the product must be well ventilated. Spray all the walls and shelves in the cabinet with the same spray can to destroy the remaining insects.
Mink coat is not a cheap pleasure. Therefore, its wear and storage should be taken seriously. Provided that you use it correctly and carefully, a natural fur product will last you much longer than the manufacturers promise.
