Roman curtains are loved by many people for their restrained style, practicality and functionality. Leading manufacturers supply the market with canvases of various colors and sizes. Hence, there is huge demand for products at a low pricing policy. Like any household item, Roman curtains need regular cleaning. Due to the many spacers, holders and laces there are difficulties with washing.
Features washing Roman curtains
- Read the information on the label before the procedure. If the fabric shrinks, wash it manually with cold water.
- If the fabric is large and heavy, dry it horizontally after washing. Place the curtain on terry towels that absorb moisture well.
- Remove stains with a store cleaner. It is important that they do not contain chlorine. In the case of old and severe soiling, contact a dry cleaner or cleaning company.
- Roman curtains located in the kitchen can be removed from fat with synthetic detergents. These include gel, cream, or dishwashing powder.
- You can not use compounds that are based on laundry, tar or toilet soap. Of course, funds perfectly remove all types of contaminants. But they are difficult to wash out of the structure of the canvas and leave traces.
- If you removed stains without removing the curtains from the window, dry the fabric away from sunlight. Calculate the time for drying in the evening. Otherwise, ultraviolet light will contribute to burnout and subsequent staining.
- Roman curtains with complex patterns or embroidery should be kept under strict control. If you plan to iron them, carry out manipulations on moist gauze tissue placed on the front side of the product.
- During the washing process, it is important to maintain the shape of the Roman curtains. Avoid mechanical impact (friction, twisting). After cleaning, let the water drain, then collect a damp cloth, returning all the liners.
- If the curtain material does not need to be ironed and has a relatively low weight, assemble the canvas immediately after washing. Hang on the ledge, dry in a straightened (not raised) position.
Preparation of Roman curtains for washing
- First of all, it is necessary to identify what material the canvas is made of. Depending on the type of fabric, the washing option also varies.
- Natural fibers include bamboo, jute, palm core. Upon contact with water, these materials are destroyed, therefore only dry cleaning is permissible.
- To clean, do not remove the curtain from the cornice. Take a vacuum cleaner (preferably automotive, compact) over the entire surface of the canvas several times, collecting dust.
- Then wrap the appliance brush with gauze moistened with water and vinegar (10: 1 ratio). Vacuum the curtain again, straighten it and dry it in a hanging position.
- If we are talking about fabric materials, they can be washed delicately in a household machine or manually. In the first case, set the "No spin" function.
Hand Wash Roman Curtains
- Strictly follow the procedure in order not to damage the shape of the fabric. First, remove the curtain from the eaves, remove the guides and rails.
- The procedure is not difficult. Reiki inserted in grooves that are not stitched on one side. Remove the guide horizontally.
- Prepare a solution of 5 liters. warm water (temperature - 35 degrees) and 50 ml. gel for washing dishes. Shake the composition into the foam by hand, soak the curtain in liquid. Important!
Roman paintings are better to soak in the bath so as not to deform the fabric.Do not use chlorine-based products that damage the product’s fibers and remove paint from the structure. - The duration of exposure in the solution depends on the degree of contamination. It is enough to soak the curtain for 40-60 minutes. Do not create mechanical stress. After soaking, drain the water.
- Use a soft brush or sponge to walk along the fabric fibers. Repeat soaking in soapy water if necessary. After removing all dust and dirt, put the curtain in the bathroom, rinse it with shower on both sides.
- Do not wring the canvas, otherwise it will deform. Spread the product, place on several terry towels. Wait for water to drain; if necessary, change the litter.
- When the curtain becomes slightly wet, you can iron it through cheesecloth or immediately insert slats and hang the canvas on the window. In the latter case, the fabric will smooth out on its own.
Machine Washable Roman Curtains
- Remove the canvas from the window. Remove the guides from the grooves, prepare a solution of warm water and dishwashing gel (10 ml of liquid accounts for 100 ml of detergent).
- Pour the composition into a clean bath, foam it by hand, soak the canvas. Wait about 1 hour. Use a brush or foam sponge to remove complex dirt. Move in the same direction along the fibers.
- When the time comes to an end, drain the water. Take a bag for washing things, put the curtain in it. Set the appliance to the “Hand wash” or “Delicate wash” mode at a temperature of 30 degrees. Do not spin.
- Pour liquid powder and rinse aid (optional) into the dedicated compartment. Wait for the program to complete. Remove the canvas, spread it on a flat surface, remove the water by hand.
- Now let the curtain dry in a horizontal position. When the product becomes slightly damp, insert the missing guides and hang the attribute on the window. In this case, ironing is not needed, the curtain will straighten itself.
The frequency of washing Roman linens varies from 2 to 3 times a year. Traditionally, cleaning is carried out at the end of the summer, autumn and spring seasons. In winter, dust does not accumulate, so there is no need to do cleaning.
