How to get rid of stuffy ears at home

Each of us, whether an adult or a child, sometimes experiences stuffy ears. This is a very unpleasant phenomenon, and it occurs for various reasons: illness, pressure drops, when moving in a vehicle, or when climbing or descending from a height.

How to get rid of stuffiness in the ears

With nasal congestion, there is a sensation as if fluid had accumulated in the ears or a cork had formed. This causes a certain discomfort and may be accompanied by dizziness, a slight cracking in the ear, and hearing impairment.

If congestion is not associated with the disease, then it does not entail serious consequences and is a temporary phenomenon that goes away on its own. However, if the congestion of the ear does not disappear for a long time, you can use methods that will help to cope with this unpleasant symptom.

Determine the reason

Before embarking on any measures, you need to determine what could cause stuffiness in the ear. If a person has just descended from an airplane ladder, this is one thing, but if congestion is accompanied by painful sensations, this is different, therefore, the measures applied to eliminate this problem will be different.

Hearing impairment may indicate that sulfur has accumulated in the ears, which must be removed. If congestion does not go away after two days, this is already an occasion to contact a specialist who will prescribe the appropriate treatment.

If water gets into your ear

Sometimes after visiting a beach, pool or shower, a small amount of water gets into the Eustachian tubes, this can also provoke congestion in the ears. Try to get rid of the fluid right away, the more time passes, the more difficult it will be.

How to remove water from the ear

Simple exercises with which you can "free" the stuffy ear:

  1. Stand on one leg, tighten the second, tilt your head to the side, where the ear is laid. Bounce slowly on one leg several times. At the same time, shake your head, helping the liquid to come out.
  2. Lie on your side, on the side where water has accumulated in your ear. Keep your ear down. After half an hour, the liquid should flow out.
  3. Insert the index finger into the auricle and create a vacuum in the ear. At the same time, slightly press on the membrane, this contributes to the suction of the liquid. Movements must be very careful so as not to injure oneself.

If the ears are blocked due to pressure drops

Ear congestion syndrome arises from a flight in an airplane or a trip to the mountains, high changes in air pressure contribute to this.

The easiest way to get rid of this is to try to remove the air from the inner ear by yawning deeply or swallowing. By the way, regular chewing gum, which causes salivation, is very effective in this case.

The second way is to pinch your nostrils with your fingers and exhale into your nose. This will adjust the air pressure. If the “exercise” is done correctly, a light pop or click will follow.

To avoid congestion in the ears, it is recommended that you take antihistamines before you leave or travel (about half an hour or an hour). This will reduce irritation inside the ear canal, thereby facilitating air passage through the ear.

You can also purchase special headphones - earplugs. They will reduce air pressure drops, thus eliminating possible stuffiness in the ears.

If congestion is caused by infection

If the ear is plugged in for 2 days, and touching the auricle causes pain, most likely an infection has entered the ear.Be sure to see a doctor who, in accordance with the diagnosis, will prescribe treatment.

Ear congestion caused by infection

As a rule, antibiotics are prescribed for infections, which are taken strictly in accordance with the instructions.

Ear drops such as flame retardant benzocaine are effective. This is a local anesthetic, not only removing congestion, but also reducing pain.

Concomitant treatment methods can be used:

  1. A warm dry compress (hot water bottle or bottle) placed on a sore ear. It relieves congestion and reduces pain.
  2. Antihistamines, but when you take them, you must definitely drink a lot of water, since they dry the airways.
  3. Gargling with saline. You can also add honey and lemon juice. This procedure has a calming effect on the Eustachian tubes.
  4. Tea tree oil, which has powerful antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, helps relieve painful conditions. How to use it: mix 2 teaspoons of tea and coconut oil, slightly warm and drip into the ear. Remove excess with a cotton swab.
  5. Abundant frequent drinking. Hot liquid (tea, herbal tea, broth, broth, hot milk) helps to thin the mucus in the ears, and also relieves nasal congestion.

Complications after otitis media

Congestion may be a residual after purulent otitis media. It is eliminated with the help of a unique beekeeping product - propolis. To do this, you need to prepare a tincture: 30 grams of crushed propolis, alcohol 70% percent (100 ml). Insist for 7 days in a dark place, strain. Before use, clean the auricle with a cotton swab and insert a cotton swab dipped in tincture into the ear.

The effects of otitis can be controlled with onions. Squeeze juice from the onion, dilute with vodka or alcohol in a ratio of 4 to 1. Bury it twice a day (morning and evening). This method is prohibited with purulent otitis media.

Sulfur congestion

Accumulation and ramming in the ear canal of sulfur can also be a cause of stuffiness in the ear. You can get rid of it with the help of special drugs that are sold in a pharmacy. If the process is very running, then the doctor takes out the procedure for removing the sulfuric plug. Most often, traffic jams occur in people who constantly wear hearing aids.

Congestion plug ear congestion

In no case should you try to remove sulfur from your ear with cotton buds and other sharp objects, using them you can push the cork even deeper.

To dissolve sulfur and remove fluid, you can try pipetting a solution of apple cider vinegar and isopropyl alcohol (in equal proportions) or hydrogen peroxide into the ear with a pipette.

As an alternative, rinse the auricle with warm water. This procedure will soften sulfur so that it can be removed on its own. To do this, heat the water, draw 3-4 ml with a sterile syringe. Tilt your head and gently pour fluid into the auricle and hold it for 5 minutes, then tilt your head to the other side. Water along with sulfur gradually flows out of the ear.

If you suspect an infection in the ear or perforation of the eardrum, it is necessary to exclude any liquid from entering the auricle and immediately go to the otolaryngologist.

If your ear is blocked, do not panic, first of all, you need to find out the cause, and only then take action. Do not self-medicate and consult a doctor on time.
