Winemakers in France usually claim that pink exists for love, white can best quench our thirst, but red is given to us to enjoy and improve our health. When we decide which wine is better to buy, we are often at a loss what to choose. There are many options - dry and semi-dry, as well as dessert wines. And which one should we take - red or white? And also from which country - France, Italy, South Africa, Chile, or maybe Georgia?
Science tells us that not all wines will benefit our body. We can benefit only from natural products, and dry and semi-dry drinks are related to it. By certain natural qualities, red and white varieties are also very different from one another. This is due to the technological features of wine production. For example, the source of nutrients contained in red wine does not lie at all in grape juice, but in grape skin (which, of course, gives red shades to wine).
But white wines are produced only from the juice and pulp of grapes, so for their production you can use almost any kind of grape - both white and red. How can this be? The secret is in fact that grape juice, as soon as it is squeezed out, is immediately filtered off and further fermented without a peel. Therefore, he can have any color - either light straw or dark yellow, right down to the cognac hue.
The French like to joke that wine, red and white, can cure almost all ailments, with the exception of one - alcoholism.
White and red wine - what is more beneficial for a person?
During this experiment, a group of participants consumed red dry wine daily for two weeks. Each of them drank half a bottle daily. In parallel, the second team, in which there was an identical number of participants, took white wine.
According to the results of the experiment, it was found that in the group of subjects who drank red wine directly, the level of antioxidants in the studied blood plasma was at a maximum after half an hour and continued to be within this value for a period of 2 to 4 hours. At the same time, experience has shown that in the group that drank white wine, this effect was completely absent.
Red Wine: Health Benefits
It's no secret that red wine is recognized as having a reddish tint. The color, of course, can be very different: both pale scarlet and very saturated dark, almost ruby. Most scientific research and many years of practice in the medical field show that red wine, in comparison with white and pink, brings the most tangible benefits to human health. Of course, if natural wine is used, and not of doubtful quality, a cheap surrogate.
So, what is the usefulness of this alcoholic drink for human health:
- There is evidence that red wine contributes significantly to lowering the production of a protein called endofelin-1 in the human body. An increase in the content of this protein can lead to such undesirable results as the development of coronary heart disease (CHD), as well as atherosclerosis and other vascular diseases. This is due to the content of so-called polyphenols in red wine. According to experts, they act as a powerful antioxidant. It is known that these substances contribute to the good functioning of the heart muscles, improve the circulatory system, and also remove "bad" cholesterol from our body.
- There is evidence that anthocyanin dyes, usually found directly in natural red wine, contribute to the fact that we get valuable vitamin P in an amount that fully covers the needs of our body, namely this vitamin helps the body absorb ascorbic acid.
If we talk about the healing qualities of wine, we must admit that this refers to dry red wine. After all, alcohol and sugar in it are in small quantities, while useful flavonoids and even an impressive list of vitamins remain at a fairly high level. Champions containing the largest amount of natural substances are grape varieties such as, for example, Cabernet and Sauvignon known to many. But how matured the wine is, does not at all affect the valuable properties of this product. After all, substances with healing properties do not increase in quantity over time, unlike prices. So, when buying a bottle of wine “for health”, we better opt for young red and dry wine.
Would white wine be beneficial?
Well, what about white wine? For a long time, it was believed that the medicinal properties of wine are imparted by substances that are contained in the skin of grapes, and since it is not used in the production of white wine, this wine was considered useless. And yet, its benefits to our body also should not be categorically denied. Dr. Eilot from France, who published the Codex Enotherapy (a kind of home-made wine treatment), writes that natural white dry wine, if mixed with mineral water, will help to defeat atherosclerosis.
American doctors recently joined the view that white wine, no worse than red, helps protect the heart and blood vessels. As a result of animal experiments, they revealed that the flesh of grapes is just as good as its peel. It was recorded that all experimental rats receiving white wine, heart, and blood vessels during the experiment were absolutely healthy. Actually, like those animals that were given only red wine.
The benefits of white wine:
- They sometimes say about this drink: "easy for the lungs." Researchers at the University of Buffalo in New York State have confirmed that, of course, with limited use, it has a positive effect on the lungs and their functionality.
- Dry white wine, in which the alcohol content does not exceed 12%, can help protect blood vessels. It is also recommended for use in metabolic disorders and some diseases of the stomach.
- The consistency of this type of wine is not as high in density as, say, red or pink. So, for example, with the help of white wine with a temperature of no higher than 6 degrees in the summer, you can perfectly quench your thirst and maintain your body tone.
How useful is rose wine?
Rosé wine, as it were, combines the valuable qualities of both red and white. This is not surprising when you consider that it is made from red grapes, but using the technology of white wine production: it starts to ferment with the skin, which is then removed. The result of this method is that any rosé wine, as a rule, is light, fairly aromatic and not very tart. High-quality pink wine contains no more than 1% of sugars, because in the process of fermentation, sugar in it is dry converted into alcohol. As for the alcohol content, it still does not exceed 11%. All this means that this wine has very few calories that we are all so afraid of.
Drinking pink wine will help us maintain the overall tone of our body. This drink can be used, and when cardiac activity is impaired - it helps to maintain normal functioning of the heart muscle. It also helps to cleanse our blood vessels, reducing cholesterol “plaques” in them. There is an opinion that pink can be drunk with diseases of the liver and stomach. If, as a result of a long illness, we lost our appetite, and with it a joyful mood, a glass of pink will be very useful. Also, its use is possible with hypertension and colitis. And in pink wine there is a large amount of potassium and phosphorus, which positively affects the nervous system.
Can pregnant women drink wine?
What to do during pregnancy, whether a woman can drink wine - this issue is widely discussed on the Internet. Usually, doctors do not recommend drinking wine, like any alcohol, during this critical period for both the baby and the expectant mother. After all, a double load falls on the pregnant woman's body. The life of your future baby, who is just getting ready to be born, is worthy of your love and protection. Of course, nature does everything to protect the fetus developing in the womb - the immunity of his mother works for him, providing all the important nutrients from the circulatory system, which they have for two in this period of life.
Unfortunately, there is a common belief that in small quantities, say, dry red wine, can not harm a pregnant woman. Like, and hemoglobin is good for appetite. But you always need to remember: alcohol that gets into the mother’s blood will also enter the fetus. It’s like drinking with your baby. Well, what - "does not hurt"? Let’s not deceive ourselves, as soon as mother drinks wine, even “a little”, the child will immediately receive his dose of ethanol. And if you compare the weight of an adult and a baby? It immediately becomes clear: for him this is a gigantic dose!
What are the consequences for the fetus that the alcohol drunk by his mother can cause? Suffice it to say that this can lead to the appearance of the so-called intrauterine alcoholism. And it entails such severe effects as defects in the bones of the skull, a decrease in the size of the fetal head, reduced weight and growth of the newborn, disproportionate development of body parts, various deformations of the chest, pathology of the nervous system and defective development of internal organs. Not to mention the fact that in the very future mother, alcohol can cause a disturbance in the functioning of many important organs.
And the most unpleasant thing is that the probability of occurrence of all these terrible consequences is very high, even with a single dose of alcohol. And scientists give such frightening statistics: in women who drank alcohol during pregnancy, in 20% of cases, the death of a newborn baby was recorded. So, sadly, the harm that wine brings to the developing fetus outweighs the positive impact of the many beneficial ingredients of this beloved drink. The best thing is not to risk the health of your baby and put off drinking until the moment when you can celebrate the emergence of a new family member.
How do we answer the question of what kind of wine is good for health? All the arguments considered by us clearly show that the benefit of wine is not the invention of alcohol lovers, but a scientifically proven fact. In this case, red, white, and pink wine can bring real benefits to the human body. The only and indispensable condition for this - when drinking wine, you need to show common sense and thoughtful attitude to yourself and your health.
