Kao mani - breed description and cat character

The homeland of Kao Mani is considered Thailand. Translated from the Thai breed it sounds like a “precious white stone”, because a graceful snow-white cat has short and very soft hair. She was compared with the radiance of a white diamond, which dominates everything and has a very high cost and rarity. Indeed, she, like a gemstone decorating an accessory, will decorate any home and create a festive mood.

History

Until the 20th century, little was mentioned about this breed. Apparently because only the royal family was allowed to start and maintain these cats. Only in 1999 they were introduced to America for breeding purposes. Facts that date back to the 13th century state that these cats lived in the royal family when Thailand was called Siam.

It is not possible to establish the exact origin of the breed. However, the Siamese cat breed, known to us today, can give birth to absolutely snow-white kittens. But in the union of the Siamese cat with a purebred cat, offspring with eyes of different colors will appear. Kao mani is a truly incomparable cat breed, but in rare cases it is compared with the Siamese, and apparently - not completely without reason.

Thanks to the Great Ruler Rama V Chulalongkorn, who adored cats and kept 8 such snow-white individuals in his palace, their population increased to 40 representatives. As it turned out, his love for these animals answered him the same. Thanks to them, at the political level, all the inhabitants of Siam were saved. Namely, in 1880, the political situation was so heated that the inhabitants of Siam were on the verge of English colonization. But the wise ruler presented the British consul with a pair of snow-white kittens as a gift. This greatly touched the consul and softened his heart. The inhabitants of Siam were saved - the state remained free. Oppression and slavery did not affect them thanks to two snow-white kittens.

To this day in Thailand, these are very revered cats that bring good luck. People believe that they are able to magically protect their master. After all, the salvation of the whole nation is described in historical chronicles, this is not a legend, but the truth. In many tourist travel booklets, these white cats serve as the hallmark of Thailand. The British were flattered and delighted with these beautiful exclusive animals. They highly appreciated this gift and in the future the relations of these countries began to improve. Since that time, the British bred the number of individuals of royal pets, so only in the 21st century of this century, this breed of cats was officially registered. It took as many as 129 years for the whole world to learn about the snow-white miracle.

These cats are truly a royal gift, having royal roots, an unrivaled reputation and only positive characteristics, in no way can bring troubles and negativity to their home. Snow-white cats that once saved the entire state are still considered the most luxurious pets to this day.

From history it is known that initially this breed of cats was kept only in the royal family. Therefore, their number is small and is considered, from a genetic point of view, pure. It did not spread among ordinary people. The number of representatives of this breed since then has remained scanty. That is why only in 2009 this breed was officially registered.

Appearance description

1. Cats have a normal body structure, the height at the withers reaches 25-30 cm. Females reach 2.5 - 3.5 kg in weight, and males 3.5 - 5 kg.
2. Animals, due to their active character, are not inclined to fullness, have a muscular, toned physique.
3. Eyes come in one or two colors.
4. They have a short coat without undercoat, pleasant to the touch. The coat is uniform, continuous.

Description of breed according to accepted standard

Due to their scarcity, these cats have no competitors. They do not compete with anyone at exhibitions and shows, but act as an individual breed. Snow-white cats have deafness (about 35%), which is laid at the gene level, and, in fact, this is a congenital disease. Iris and hearing are standard genetic diseases of this breed of cats.

Kittens of this breed cannot be cheap - just because they are a very rare breed. In the TICA Standards Certificate, kao mani is characterized as follows:

1. The physique is proportional, flexible, muscular and large.
2. The head is elongated, has a wedge-shaped, dryish cheekbones, visually the cheeks can be seen only in males. They have smooth outlines of the muzzle, nose with a wide nose bridge, straight.
3. Forehead without hollows, flat.
4. Almond-shaped eyes set wide. According to the standard, both eyes are acceptable in sky blue, or in different colors.
5. Ears are triangular and large, standing and raised up. The hair on the ears is only short or instead of it is bare skin, without hairline.
6. The limbs are of medium length, well developed and mobile.
7. The tail is longer than average; it is mobile and well developed.
8. The color is only snow-white, no shade, because white wool is a characteristic feature of the breed. In rare cases, it is permissible for kittens to have a spot of a different color on their heads, which will eventually change to white hair.

Fact! The unique structure of the retina of the eye during photography allows you to observe the “red eye effect” in the photo. For this feature they are called the "diamond eye."

Character

These cats are very smart and sociable, they do not like to be alone. Therefore, the kitten must be given maximum attention and show his love, otherwise the animal will turn away from the owner. By virtue of its friendly and sociable character, the baby just closes, becomes inhospitable. In adulthood, this will no longer be an affectionate tame cat, but will be closed and fixated on its own interests, and the indifference of the owners, once manifested, will be to blame. It is worth remembering that a pet is only a part of our life, and for them we are their whole life and meaning. Do not forget, we are responsible for those who have tamed!

They are very active, like games, quite hardy and inquisitive. They love to hunt and learn new things. This cat, by virtue of its love of experience, explores every corner of your home. Thanks to their friendly disposition, they easily get along in families with children and other animals. They are completely non-conflict, these cats themselves will find an approach. If you do not make contact with the animal, then it will be very offended and will avoid further contact.

Kao mani very painfully endure loneliness, especially long. In no case should this be allowed, otherwise they may have mental disorders that will come to light in aggression, depression, nervousness, and even inadequacy. After all, this species of cats, although recently registered, has been domesticated since ancient times. In the entire history of their existence, they have always lived among people. It is from here that they have such a need for communication. They are drawn to people, because it is laid at the genetic level.

Proper care and maintenance

They do not need specific care, traditional methods are quite suitable for snow-white cats of royal destination. Care - like a standard ordinary cat, nothing original. Their life expectancy is 12 to 15 years.

Given the specific nature of this breed, it is worth taking care that the cat has its own soft corner and toys with which you can play "hunting." The moderate growth of the claws allows you not to cut them off, but to limit yourself to a claw point. The cat will solve its delicate problem on its own.

1. Particular attention should be paid to grooming. The cat, as practice shows, often molts, so it needs to be combed with a special comb, and you will have to do this daily.
2. From childhood, you need to teach a kitten to swim. Cats, unlike dogs, do not particularly like swimming. But if from an early age to accustom the animal to this procedure, then in the future you will not have to force the cat in the bath.
3. You need to weekly clean your ears from sulfur, and check your eyes for ticks and other parasites.
4. The tray must be selected high.
5. Nutrition should be complete and varied. It is not recommended to feed the cat too rough food, as it is prone to frequent gum disease. And so, in general, these cats are very resistant to many different diseases.

To date, only in France, the USA and the UK there are specialized nurseries where they breed and sell royal cats. These are private nurseries that do not breed this type of cats en masse. Given its uniqueness and rarity, kao mani is an expensive elite cat breed. The cost of a kitten is about 70-100 thousand rubles.
