Sore throat. The first thought appears about the unexpected occurrence of a sore throat. The situation, of course, is unpleasant and requires certain therapeutic measures. But is it worth leaving all the business to go to the pharmacy and buy all the medicines in a row in it, sometimes very expensive, including antibiotics? Of course not. If the temperature is insignificant, there is no white coating on the tonsils, then it is quite possible to do without antibiotics. The main thing is not to start the disease, and effective alternative methods of treatment will always be found.
What is a sore throat?
This disease is part of the group of infectious pathologies. Clinical symptoms are associated with inflammation of the tonsils and the general manifestations observed in any infectious process (fever, decreased appetite, lethargy, and other symptoms characteristic of fever).
The disease is caused by various pathogenic microflora, the nature of which is determined laboratory by sowing a smear from the surface of the tonsils.
Important! If there is a sore throat and suspected tonsillitis, it is necessary to take sowing from the tonsils for a differential diagnosis in order to exclude the presence of diphtheria.
It is one thing when the cause of angina is the bacterial flora, and the disease proceeds with the presence of high temperature and the presence of white plaque on the palatine glands. There is clearly no way to do without antibiotics. But viruses can also cause tonsillitis, and antibiotics, as you know, do not work on them. Therefore, there is simply no point in feeding your body with antibiotic agents.
However, for the most part, the disease is caused by beta-hemolytic group A streptococcus, and it belongs to the bacterial flora. In this case, antibiotics should be prescribed, but again, if the disease is severe, with a marked increase in temperature and the presence of a characteristic white coating on the tonsils. In a mild form of the disease, you can limit yourself to the use of alternative methods of treatment, which will be discussed later.
Types of angina
One way of dividing angina into species is to classify them according to the type of pathogen that caused the onset of the disease. In accordance with this, all sore throats can be divided into the following types:
- Sore throats of viral etiology. They are caused by various types of viruses (Coxsackie, influenza virus, other types of microorganisms). The treatment regimen for such diseases does not involve the use of antibiotics. Such viruses contain RNA and antibiotics do not act on them. With such diseases, antiviral drugs are used as part of complex therapy. The treatment is supplemented with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and topical antiseptic drugs (gargling).
- Sore throats of a fungal nature. As a rule, the main culprit is mushrooms belonging to the genus Candida. If angina is caused by fungal flora, then antibiotics are also not used. In this case, the use of antifungal drugs is required. Treatment is also complemented by symptomatic therapy and topical medications.
- Sore throats caused by bacterial flora. It must be said that the cause of angina can be not only streptococci, but also other representatives of the coccal flora, in particular, staphylococcus. Local therapy for this group of diseases is ineffective. It is necessary to use antibiotics.
In addition, there are sore throats that are the result of blood diseases.They arise because there is a pronounced suppression of the body's immune system. This can be facilitated by ionizing radiation, prolonged exposure to toxic chemicals, and the use of oncological medicines. The treatment in this case is mainly symptomatic and based on the use of glucocorticoids.
It is easy to see that the use of antibiotics is indicated only for bacterial tonsillitis and only in the presence of a severe clinical picture of the disease. In any case, antibiotics should not be used on their own. They can only be prescribed by a doctor.
Treatment of angina without antibiotics
According to long-term observations, tonsillitis, in the etiology of which there is no bacterial factor, end with clinical recovery after 5-10 days. This is achieved without the use of potent drugs. The main condition is a full course of treatment before clinical recovery. If you do not treat a sore throat or use the wrong treatment regimen, then it can go into a chronic form.
Another point is that this disease in the absence or improper treatment can lead to a number of serious complications, up to those that will endanger the patient's life. From all this, we can conclude that tonsillitis, even in mild form, must be correctly and timely treated. First of all, efforts are aimed at stabilizing the general condition of the patient.
The treatment regimen for any sore throat without the use of antibiotics implies certain standards. They can be reduced to the following positions:
- Combating general intoxication.
- Increased non-specific protection. In this case, the body successfully resists the disease.
- Active measures aimed at the cause of the disease.
- Symptomatic therapy affecting local manifestations.
Standards in the treatment of tonsillitis involve the following actions:
The patient should be in strict bed rest. Measures are being taken to ensure sufficient intake of sick fluid in the body, and the use of a sparing diet in the diet.
The patient should be provided with complete peace. This condition is important because many other body systems can be involved in the process. The disease leaves a certain imprint on the work of the heart, urine excretion system. The patient should drink up to 2 liters of fluid per day. This is necessary to relieve the effects of intoxication. Nutrition should be fortified and balanced as much as possible. This will strengthen the body's defenses. Food should only be warm, spicy and fried foods are excluded. Food should be mechanically sparing. Do not forget that locally the process is concentrated in the throat.
Sulfa drugs
In their mechanism of action, such drugs have a bacteriostatic effect. After their administration, the growth and development of pathogenic microflora slows down or even stops. They are especially effective against gram-negative bacteria, which include coccal flora. These drugs have an addictive effect. Therefore, the dosage and treatment regimen is prescribed only by a doctor.
You can not violate the treatment regimen or stop taking them before the prescribed time. This can lead to the emergence of resistant strains of bacteria, and they subsequently turn out to be simply ineffective.
Anti-temperature drugs and antihistamines
It should immediately be said that the temperature with angina should not always be brought down. This is only required when it has exceeded 38.5 degrees. If the temperature is low, then it does not require artificial reduction. For this purpose, you can use popular antipyretic drugs. For this purpose, Panadol or Ibuprofen is suitable.It is necessary to remove the sensitization that arose as a result of the vital activity of microorganisms. It is necessary to use diphenhydramine, pipolfen, suprastin, and other similar medicines.
Rinse
A similar procedure is necessary to remove plaque from the surface of the tonsils and the sanitation of the oral cavity. The first time you gargle is necessary as often as possible. The frequency of the procedure can reach up to 15-20 times a day. For this purpose, various means are used:
- baking soda. It is dissolved in a glass of water in the volume of one tablespoon;
- hydrogen peroxide in the form of a weak solution;
- decoctions of herbs and fees;
- furatsillin in the form of an aqueous solution;
- chlorhexidine.
It is impossible to throw back your head strongly, since the liquid will get into the nasal passages. This will not benefit, but will only cause the spread of the infectious onset.
Antiseptics in the form of tablets
After rinsing, it is recommended to dissolve a tablet of one of the antiseptic agents. For this purpose, it is entirely possible to use pharyngosept or a common streptocide. Some homeopathic remedies have proved to be not bad in this regard. An example is Angin-Gran. From folk remedies, propolis can be used.
Aerosols
Modern aerosol products are characterized by a complex effect. They have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. Aerosols should be used no earlier than half an hour after the resorption of how the antiseptic tablet was used. "Cameton" or "Pharmaseptic" is quite suitable for this purpose. Of course, there are many other means.
The use of compresses and alternative medicine
The place for applying the compress is the posterolateral part of the neck - where the hyperemic lymph nodes are located.
Important! If purulent tonsillitis takes place, then any heating is prohibited. All other cases suggest the need for prior consultation with a doctor.
For compresses, you can use vodka or diluted alcohol. You can use camphor or other vegetable oil.
In the arsenal of alternative medicine, there are many tools for rinsing. First of all, these are decoctions prepared on the basis of chamomile. For the same purposes, you can use oak bark, sage, a number of other medicinal herbs.
Complications
With therapy without the use of antibiotics, it is necessary to constantly monitor the general condition of the patient. The disease itself is not so scary as its grave consequences. As a complication, phlegmon of the neck or paratonsillitis can develop. Often abscesses of various localization act as a complication. All of them are quite severe and require surgical treatment. There may be complications from the internal organs. For example, banal tonsillitis can lead to the development of pyelonephritis, and in severe cases, even kidney failure can develop.
Complications can be prevented, but it is very difficult to deal with them.
