The coprinus flickering - a description of where it grows, the toxicity of the mushroom

Shimmering dungster mushrooms belong to the Psatirella family. Sometimes you can hear another name for this fungus - crumbling dung beetle. This species used to belong to the Navoznikov family, but today it is disbanded. In Latin, the name sounds like Coprinus micaceus.

Inaugural flickering

general description

The hat of representatives of this species initially has an ovoid shape, but over time it takes the form of a bell. In this case, the hat is practically not opened. Its diameter varies between 1-4 cm. The cap of the dung beetle is colored yellowish-brown. Frequent folds are visible on the surface. The name flickering this species received due to the fact that there are a lot of scales on the hat, which can shine and shimmer in sunny weather. But they are washed off with water, because after the rain the mushroom will no longer shine so much.

The plates under the hat are often located. In a young mushroom, they have a light shade, but darken over time. In an old mushroom, these plates are almost black and decompose. But this decomposition is not expressed as intensely as that of a white dung beetle.

In these fungi, spore powder has a brownish-black tint. The leg is long and thick in relation to the hat. Inside it is hollow. The surface is white. The upper part of the leg has a smooth surface, and the lower part is more silky. The ring is missing.

Where grows

The fruiting period of representatives of this species is quite long. It begins in the spring, and ends only in the fall. You can see them on a rotting tree. As a rule, a whole cluster of shimmering dung bears grows nearby. On conifers, you can hardly see them, so we can assume that the mushroom prefers to grow only on deciduous trees.

Can I eat?

Flickering dung beetle can be eaten only if the mushroom is still young. This applies not only to this species, but also to other dung beetles. But this species does not have high palatability. For eating, it is better to give preference to a white dung beetle, which tastes much better.

The use of only young mushrooms is due to the fact that some parts of it are decomposed. Therefore, it is possible to collect only those mushrooms in which the plates still remain light. Within 1-2 hours after the litter of the mushroom, it must be started to cook. When cooking, mixing it with other species is not recommended. Before cooking, they must be boiled for about 20 minutes. After that, the water is drained, and the mushroom is prepared in any way as desired. It is boiled or fried. Often a dung beetle flicker pickling or is added to the soup.

As a cure for alcoholism

Researchers claim that these mushrooms are incompatible with alcohol. This must be known to those who want to serve mushrooms during the festive feast. Gray dung beetle has the same properties.

Coprinellus micaceus

In these mushrooms there are substances that, in combination with alcohol, will lead to poisoning. Symptoms are high fever, palpitations. Often vomiting begins, a person has impaired vision and even speech. It is important to remember that even after 48 hours after eating these mushrooms, alcohol should not be consumed. This feature of mushrooms is used to cure a person of alcoholism. The tool works effectively.

But such treatment can not be started if a person suffers from diseases of the lungs, liver or kidneys, as well as those who have cardiovascular disorders.

Other types of dung beetles

There are a lot of species of dung beetles. You can’t say exactly how many there are today, since scientists often abolish some species, or decide that the species should belong to another family.

  1. Coprinus copepods. This mushroom should not be eaten. The hat has a fusiform shape, but the next day takes on the shape of a bell. And after a while it becomes almost flat. Even at the stage of bell shape, the hat begins to decompose. White flakes of small size are visible on the surface. The pulp of the mushroom is fragile, the leg is usually curved and has scales. The fruiting period begins in the summer and lasts until the fall. The mushroom grows on decaying trees or in a pasture where the soil is fertilized with manure. The body of the mushroom develops rapidly and fades.
  2. The folded manure is also unusable. First, his hat is convex, and then take the form of a half-opened umbrella. It has a yellow color, because of the plates the surface of the cap is pleated. The leg is white, thin, has a smooth surface.

These mushrooms grow from late spring to mid autumn. You can see them in the meadow.
