For most gardeners and gardeners, life without a favorite suburban area is not nice. Moreover, this site serves not only to grow the right food in the form of fruits and vegetables, but also to conduct experiments. Restless summer residents are experimenting with new varieties unfamiliar to them, they are trying to grow or not? What will be? Will the rich produce a crop? One of these innovations is Björn cucumbers. It is unpretentious and resistant to disease, suitable for cultivation in all regions of Russia, fell in love with excellent yields to all who cultivated it.
Description
Bush
- Björn belongs to parthenocapic (self-pollinated) varieties. He does not need insects, so the bush bears fruit well in enclosed spaces - greenhouses and greenhouses.
- The plant is very powerful and dense. Due to the fact that the side shoots hardly develop, it is convenient to harvest.
- The plant blooms with a bouquet, in each node 2-5 fruits are formed, capable of developing simultaneously.
Fruit
Cucumbers are dark green in color, almost all are alike, have the same parameters - their size and weight are almost similar. Each length is 11-12 centimeters, weight reaches 95-100 grams. The surface of the fruit is decorated with small pimples. There are no stripes or spots on the surface. The pulp is not friable, dense, crunchy, tastes sweetish.
Ripening dates and productivity
Björn matures early - 35-40 days pass between planting and harvesting. And you can collect the fruits after 60-70 days. Vegetables ripen together, there are many of them. Most of them grow in the area of the main stem, so they are easy to collect.
Harvest: 13-14 kg with 1 sq.m. - when growing on a site in open ground, 20 kg in a greenhouse.
Landing
Planting cucumbers occurs in two ways:
- Seeds are buried directly in the ground.
- Seedling method.
It is recommended to plant by the seedling method, because a larger yield is obtained, vegetables ripen 10-14 days earlier and bear fruit longer. Seeds for seedlings are planted in early April. It is not necessary to process them before sowing.
In the first decade of April, one or two seeds are put in pots and watered daily. Sprouts appear on day 5-6, when 3-4 leaves appear (this happens after 16-20 days), the seedlings are transplanted to the site.
Between the rows you need to make a distance of 160-165 centimeters, and plants should be removed from each other by 35-50 centimeters.
Transplantation
It is best to plant seedlings in the place where lettuce, legumes and cabbage grew before. It is not recommended to plant where beans or zucchini used to be - these plants have common diseases.
The site can be both in the sun and in the shade. But, since cucumbers like to be light, it is better to plant them where there is a lot of sunlight, placing beds from the north to the opposite side.
Priming
The soil for this culture is better to choose loose and fertile. First, organic fertilizer must be added to it - peat or last year's manure. If the earth is acidic, then you can sprinkle with ash with the addition of chalk or lime.
Care
Standard plant care - watering, weeding, loosening, top dressing.
Watering cucumbers is vital - these plants love moisture, because they need a lot of water. During the flowering period, it is enough to water them once a week, but very abundantly. In this case, it is necessary to watch that the water does not fall on the plant itself, but directly on the ground. But during fruiting, watering is carried out even more often - once every 4 days.It is better to do the procedure in the evening, using well-maintained warm water for this.
The bushes of this variety are high, therefore it is recommended to put wooden or metal trellises at the beds, to which the plant will be tied.
Diseases and Pests
Cucumbers are susceptible to attack by pests. Many of them live in greenhouses.
- Whitefly is a very small insect that sucks juice from fruits. If you do not take measures to destroy, then the bushes wither and die.
- Aphids are very voracious and prolific. Colonies destroy the plant.
- Slugs are nocturnal pests that crawl through the culture and leave a harmful mucous trail. These gluttonous insects can ruin the entire crop.
In order to avoid the multiplication of these pests in the greenhouse, it is necessary to observe elementary cleanliness and constantly weed the site.
To combat them, there are many chemicals - from drafts to various insecticides. There are also several folk remedies - spraying with iodine and garlic infusion, treating the plant with a solution of water, ash and soap, and so on.
The variety has good immunity to many diseases affecting cucumbers - powdery mildew, cucumber mosaic and cladosporiosis are not terrible for this variety. But if the basic rules of care are not respected, there is a high probability of culture damage by other diseases. They need to be treated traditionally - to tear off the affected leaves, spray with insecticides and so on.
Harvesting, storage
- Cucumbers must be collected immediately, as they become the right size.
- To better store fruits, it is better to collect them in the morning or evening hours. It is recommended to cut the fruits with a knife, laying aside not the most successful vegetables. Cucumbers have a good shelf life and can be stored fresh for a long time. Store better in a not too hot place.
Application
They are universal in application - cucumbers are eaten raw, used for cooking. They make excellent canned food - when salted, the taste becomes especially bright.
- 8-12 centimeters - for salting.
- 8-10 centimeters - for canning.
- from 10 centimeters - salads.
Landing Areas
The variety is stable, has good stress resistance. It easily forms ovaries, which it saves and does not reset when problems with illumination and temperature fluctuations appear. The variety can be grown both in greenhouses and on the street. It is grown in most regions of Russia, it produces especially good crops in the south and in the Volga region.
