The content of the article
It is possible, without any prejudice, to assert that certain varieties of cucumbers are grown in every household plot. This vegetable is used both fresh and in conservation. This article provides guidelines for growing a variety like Prestige F1. It has many advantages over other types of culture.
This is a hybrid bred for the central part of Russia by the selection agricultural firm Zedek. Allows you to get a crop both in open ground and in greenhouses. The growing season is about one and a half months. Fruits have an average size of 7 - 10 cm. Mass reaches 90 grams. Grade productivity - 25 kg from 1 sq. M.
Preparing the soil for planting cucumbers in the open ground
This plant feels good on light soils rich in organic matter. But in any case, its preparation will not be superfluous.
Preparatory measures include the preliminary cultivation of land in the autumn. It includes the application of organic and mineral fertilizers to the proposed site. As organics, manure is used. The best indicators are chicken droppings and mullein. This fertilizer simply spreads over the surface with a pick shovel. As mineral fertilizers, the use of complex agents is desirable, it can be ammophos. She is also scattered on the top. Then the site is deeply digged onto a full bayonet. Application on a crop rotation site is a prerequisite for obtaining a good crop.
The best yield indicators will be in the area where before that they grew:
- pepper;
- salad;
- cabbage;
- Tomatoes
- turnip.
In the spring, the earth is additionally dug up on the beds, and if fertilizers were not applied enough, they are added. If the land under the bed is in a place where the underground water is close, the bed rises above the soil up to 30 cm. To do this, put wooden gutters without a bottom, where the soil is filled.
For growing in greenhouses, if it is produced in industrial greenhouses, a specialized soil composition is used. If this is done in a private greenhouse with small volumes of production, soil from a personal plot is used with the addition of specialized additives that are purchased in specialized stores.
Preparing seedlings and seeds for planting
There are two ways to plant cucumbers - seeds and seedlings.
Preparing seeds for planting
For such a planting, just seeds are used that are soaked before planting until they begin to germinate. Or planted in the ground in dry form. This landing is carried out at a time when the frost is completely over. Growth stimulants are used to accelerate germination. There are quite a few varieties of such stimulants.
Seedlings
This method is used to obtain earlier vegetables. Recently, it has been practiced more and more often. To obtain seedlings, small pots are used. They can be made of plastic or special peat. Seeds of 3 to 4 pieces are planted in these pots to a depth of 2 cm and watered. The soil for this is acquired in a specialized store, mixing soil with it from the place of future planting. All these works are done two weeks before landing. Potted soil should be moist. Until the seeds have germinated, it is advisable to cover the pot with plastic wrap. Then a microclimate will be created under it, and the soil will not dry out as often. When shoots appear, the strongest plant is left, carefully removing the rest. And when up to 3 leaves appear on the bush, they can be planted in the ground.
Important! Whatever way the cucumbers are planted, it is advisable to cover them with film after planting.
Landing
Seedless planting involves planting seeds or in special strips, up to 2-5 cm deep, or planting in holes at the same depth. To do this, choose a sunny place, protected from the winds. Before planting, fertilizer is introduced into the holes or strips - this can be either organic or ammophos. Then the landing site is watered abundantly. Before germinated shoots appear, it is advisable to cover the planting place with a film.
Transplanting. Landing along with pots. To do this, the bottom is cleaned and planted with the pot. This reduces the stress of the plant during planting and does not injure its root. Until the plant has fully taken root, it is better to cover it with a film.
Both seeds and seedlings are planted at a distance of up to 20 cm from each other. After planting, the soil is mulched. To do this, either sawdust, or finely chopped hay, or needles are used.
Watering
During the initial growth period, watering is done very carefully. Water should have a temperature not lower than the environment. The soil is moistened to a depth of 30 cm, and the flowering period is limited by the number of irrigations. Their number is increased during the bearing of the plant.
Top dressing
Plant nutrition is carried out once every half a month. For this, both organic and mineral fertilizers are used, but in small quantities. When feeding, you should pay increased attention to the state of plant growth.
After top dressing and watering, the earth near the plant is loosened. The roots of the plant are located near the surface, so loosening is done carefully so as not to damage them. Good results are given by adding compost plants.
Plant diseases
Although this variety is artificially bred, it does not have immunity from certain diseases. So, he is prone to such types of diseases as:
- Powdery mildew - usually the plant becomes ill during the cool and rainy summers, spraying with baking soda 0.4% with the addition of soap is used, and chemical preparations are purchased.
- Peronosporosis - it is treated in the same way as powdery mildew, treatment with Bordeaux liquid is also used.
- Gray rot, the reason is waterlogging of the soil and lowering the ambient temperature, fungicides are used for treatment.
Many diseases can be avoided by applying crop rotation, thorough autumn harvesting of the site and the use of deep tillage.
This article gives recommendations for planting and growing such a variety of cucumbers as Prestige F1. Adhering to them, you will get a decent crop in your personal plot.
