There are many varieties of sweet peppers, but not all of them are characterized by high productivity and excellent taste of the fruit. But Ivanhoe is just such a variety that can become the pride of any vegetable grower.
The main features of the variety
The characteristics of the Ivanhoe variety indicate that it is early ripe. The ripening period is 115 days - from the appearance of seedlings to the harvest of the first crop.
The thickness of the pulp of pepper of this species is approximately 7 millimeters, and the mass of each fruit reaches almost 150 grams.
Sweet pepper of the Ivanha variety is very popular among gardeners from different regions, as it has excellent commercial qualities and gives a large amount of yield - more than 70 centners of ripe peppers can be collected from one hectare.
To maintain yield indicators at such a high level, experienced gardeners recommend carefully caring for this vegetable crop - the variety needs regular watering, loosening the soil. In addition, it is important to ensure that the soil is not too cool, since warm pepper is preferable to sweet pepper.
Using cold water to moisten the soil can also have a negative effect on the vegetable crop, as a result of which its growth will stop.
Positive and negative qualities of the Ivanhoe variety
The variety has a large number of advantages and only one drawback, consisting in the fact that it is adversely affected by bad weather conditions. For this reason, the greenhouse is considered the best place to grow crops.
If we talk about the merits, then it is almost impossible to count them. The main ones are as follows:
- The variety gives a large amount of quality harvest and, in addition, is early ripe, so you can pick up the first ripe fruits much earlier than when planting other types of sweet pepper.
- Variety Aivengo is not afraid of frequent plantings.
- Ripe fruits have excellent taste and pleasant aroma.
- The variety has a long shelf life, the crop is easily transported even over long distances.
- It is highly resistant to many diseases, especially alternariosis and mosaics.
- The variety is also distinguished by the fact that even ripened peppers with a yellow color are suitable for eating.
As mentioned above, the disadvantages of the Ivanhoe variety include the fact that it reacts negatively to bad weather conditions, which is why it is recommended to grow it in greenhouse conditions.
How to plant seeds
Note! It is advisable to plant pepper in the area where beans, onions or cucumbers were grown in the previous season. To prevent attacks on the crop of harmful insects, it is recommended to change the area for growing sweet pepper annually.
Aivengo variety is good for moisture. Therefore, if the soil is loamy, it is advisable to add humus or peat to it. In clay soil, in addition, sand or sawdust should be added.
It is important to prepare the seed. Seeds are pre-treated by placing for half an hour in a manganese solution, then they should be washed and sown in the ground.It should be borne in mind that this vegetable crop does not respond well to transplantation, so it is better to plant the seed in separate peat pots so that when transferred to a permanent place, the sprouts are not pulled out and injured. Entries appear after three weeks.
When the last spring frosts recede, stronger sprouts are planted in a permanent place. When landing, you need to ensure that the distance between the rows is at least 50 centimeters.
It is highly recommended not to plant bitter pepper near this vegetable crop so that pollination does not occur. Sprouts must be planted so that they are located at the same level as in the peat pot. Transplant bell pepper to a permanent place in the evening, without fail watering the hole.
Care Features
The most important thing is to regularly water the plant. Watering is carried out in accordance with the following scheme:
- five days after the transfer of seedlings to a permanent place;
- ten days before harvesting ripe fruits;
- immediately after harvesting.
It is necessary to remember about regular fertilizing. You need to feed the plant at a time when the air temperature is at a stable level and is approximately 20 degrees. Experienced growers recommend the use of growth stimulants as fertilizers. A good effect, for example, gives the drug Energen.
You should also periodically loosen the soil, due to this, the necessary amount of oxygen will be delivered to the root system.
Pests
When transferred to open ground, the plant may be attacked by harmful insects. Despite the fact that the variety has good resistance to diseases and pests, it can be attacked by aphids and ticks. Such attacks are dangerous because, as a result, the leaves of the plant can curl and fall, the formation of fruits can stop.
Favorable conditions for the development of pests are considered to be a temperature of about 25 degrees and a humidity of about 80 percent. The danger of this is that these harmful insects can create about 20 generations over the summer, which can lead to the complete destruction of the crop. To avoid this, to combat pests, you can use one of these tools:
- ash;
- tincture of tobacco;
- soap solution.
These remedies help aphids well. It is more difficult to fight with a spider mite. It is preferable to use drugs such as Actellik or Fitoverm.
