Pepper Victoria - description and characteristics of the variety

The variety of this pepper was bred by Moldovan breeders in 1979. It was intended for cultivation in the middle lane and in the southern regions of Russia. Over the years, Victoria pepper has gained great popularity, having established itself as a high-yielding variety. Now it is grown in areas where climatic conditions do not always favor the growth of garden crops. However, the gardeners of the northern territories have been successfully growing Victoria, collecting crops that are no different from the one that grew in the south.

Pepper Victoria

Description and specifications

Victoria is an early ripe pepper. It grows well in open ground, under film and in greenhouses. Resistant to lower temperatures. Has a good immunity to diseases. It tolerates transportation and storage. About 7 kg of fruits are collected from one square meter, and with proper care 20-25 fruits can be removed from one bush.

The height of the bush reaches 50-60 cm. It is quite compact, so it is ideal for cultivation in small areas. The fruit is smooth conical in shape. As they mature, the color of the peppers changes from green to bright red. Weight - 80-100 g, length - 10-11 cm. The pulp of the vegetable has a juicy sweet taste. It is used fresh and for canning.

For the full ripening of fruits on the bushes, it is necessary to wait about 4.5-5 months, which is not suitable for all areas. But this is not a problem, since peppers can ripen at home.

Growing pepper

Seeds for seedlings are preliminarily kept in moist tissue until the first sprout appears, and then planted in peat cups. During germination, the temperature in the room should be about + 25- + 30 degrees, and during the period of growth and development of seedlings - not lower than + 21- + 25 degrees. It is necessary to provide plants with good lighting, regular watering and top dressing.

After two months, the grown seedlings are transplanted into separate containers. Landing is done at the end of spring after warm weather sets in and the soil warms up enough. Before planting, it is recommended to harden the seedlings. To do this, they are taken out for about two weeks in the daytime on the veranda or on the loggia. This method helps plants acclimatize faster after transplanting into the ground.

Before planting peppers in a permanent place, the soil is cultivated and fertilized. Seedlings are carefully removed from the containers, being careful not to damage the roots. It should be remembered that the distance between the bushes should be at least 50 cm. The most convenient option is to plant when the holes are staggered. This will provide all plants with good lighting and ventilation. Warm water is poured into the recesses and, slightly condensing, slightly sprinkled with earth. Additionally, you need to mulch the soil with humus or peat.

Pepper does not tolerate both drying out and excessive humidity, so watering should be moderate. Watering is necessary with warm, settled water 1 time per week, on hot days -2-3 times.

To prevent thickening of shrubs, it is necessary to break off the side shoots located below the first fork. Otherwise, all the forces of the plant will go not to ripen the fruit, but to grow the stem.

Good pepper care, timely weeding and loosening of the soil allow you to harvest an excellent harvest from mid-summer until the onset of the first frost.

Fertilizer plants

As a rule, Victoria is fertilized with a mixture of double superphosphate and urea, diluted in water. With the infused solution, plants are shed at the rate of 0.5 l per bush.During the period of fruit formation, potassium-phosphorus top dressing should be applied.

Pest control

Having a fairly good immunity to diseases, Victoria pepper is often attacked by pests such as the Colorado potato beetle, spider mite and naked slug. To avoid damage, you should regularly inspect the plantings, and do not plant pepper next to tomatoes, eggplant and potatoes.

You can get rid of the Colorado potato beetle using infused celandine grass (1.5 kg of greens per bucket of boiling water). Insist for about three hours, then add 1 liter of chlorine and a half percent calcium and spray the plants with the resulting solution. Also, to combat this pest, use a mixture of ash (1 cup) and chopped wormwood (200 g), dissolved in 10 liters of hot water, which is insisted for 2 hours and, having filtered, sprayed with peppers.

Spider mites are fought with onion mortar (1 bucket of husk per 1 bucket of hot water). For five days it is insisted, filtered, and after adding a little laundry soap, the bushes are sprayed.

Naked slugs are exterminated with such drugs as: “Thunderstorm”, “Sludge” and “Ferramol”.
