Owners of special cats are at a loss, they do not understand why their pets do not like stroking and attention. Novice breeders presented their new engrafter in the form of a companion who would sit on his knees and purr. However, a huge number of cats wish independence, well, they do not like to spend time on the lap of the owner. Before shouting that cats are ungrateful creatures, you need to understand what the alienation of an animal is connected with.
Cat character
Each cat has its own character, there are rather closed creatures who like to spend more time on the street than at home. They avoid close contact with people. Especially often, cats do not show a response when they are stroking and picking up their hands, on the contrary, at the first opportunity they run away to their secluded place, away from people, usually they hide on high ground, and they feel comfortable there.
Cats do not want to be in human hands because of their nature. Domestic animals prefer to communicate with their relatives, so that all attempts to force the cat to sit in its arms either end in failure or pet dissatisfaction.
Cats are sensitive creatures, they quickly grasp a bad experience. For example, when children come, it may happen that the animal runs off under the sofa, it has already encountered children and knows that they will pick up and drag and squeeze. Accordingly, when trying to physically tame a cat's hands, it may happen that a tailed pet will hide under the beds and go out only when there is a great need.
Independent Cat Types
The above character can be found in the inimitable Maine Coons. But not at all, as in life there are also friendly individuals who adapt to circumstances.
But outbred persons easily make contact and rub against the owner’s feet, sit quietly in their arms and purr. True, aristocrats are also found in outbred cats.
Secretive and cowardly cats
There is a fearful look of cats; they shy away from any communication with humans. They do not want human touch and stroking, but when they see human hands, they immediately capitulate to their refuge. A healthy-looking cat with constant fearful behavior does not suffer from any ailment, it just has such a habit formed from childhood. Nobody stroked or picked up a kitten as a kitten, but with age it simply became familiar not to experience any pleasant sensations from human attention. In the best case, such an animal will be next to a person, for example, in one room, but still keeping a distance.
Street cats, which people saw on the street and decided to take with them, are especially shy. They are not accustomed to touch, and, therefore, always behave carefully and do not allow themselves to relax. The most problematic cases are related to animals that have experienced pain from human hands. An unpleasant precipitate can remain in the cat's memory for a long time and manifest itself in the form of aggression or flight.
Is it possible to accustom a cat to hands?
The adaptation process is gradual, no need to resort to physical impact to train the pet. Forced retention will only aggravate the problem, because the cat will begin to associate hands not with pleasure, but with suffering.
It is very simple to understand whether a cat is good - if it purrs and does not show the appearance of what it suffers, then usually this signals a cat's friendly mood.
The smaller the cat’s age, the easier it is to tame her hands. The shy creature needs to be first stroked only in passing, and then carefully, after which it is better not to touch it for a day. Every day you need to gradually increase the degree of stroking, and do this process correctly, that is, do not iron the cat against the coat and persistently. Having made a tradition of stroking, one should not rush, it is better to let the cat get used to this daily procedure, and only after proceed with rapprochement. First you need to try to feed the cat with your hands, so she can understand that hands are good.
It is only necessary to pick up a pet at the moment when the cat ceases to be completely afraid and enters the trust in the owner. But even if the pet trusts, then you should not always take control of it, any living creature is an authoritarian being and, with excessive attention from the owner, can again turn into a closed and cautious person.
Inveterate cat lovers recommend taking the cat in your arms and feeding it with delicious food, thereby reinforcing the idea that hands are good. Only by showing great patience, you can achieve a close relationship with your beloved pet, perhaps someday the cat will even begin to ask herself in her arms.
In the event that the pet still does not want to sit on her hands and endure affection, then you will have to come to terms with this. We have already examined above the fact that some cats do not like affection, they can love the owners, but simply do not want to part with their independence, and there is nothing monstrous in this, you just need to understand and accept your cat as it is. And life will be improved both by the fluffy and by its owner.
