Why the Decembrist does not bloom. What to do? - This topic is of interest to many lovers of home flowers. After all, when growing it at home, mistakes are made that not everyone notices. For example, it is believed that all indoor colors constantly require warmth and plenty of light. So the Decembrist is provided with similar conditions throughout the year. But he does not bloom! He did not even notice the time when it was time to issue buds.
To admire a magnificent bouquet in December, competent care should begin in March. Let's look at each month in detail.
March. April
Be sure to do spring pruning. Moreover, this is not the use of scissors or blades. This is breaking off the hands of the extreme segment on the shoot entirely. If you leave a half-cut piece on the branch, then 100% will begin to rot or disease. Therefore, you need to break strictly on the knees! And certainly on every escape.
Some sources recommend replanting the Decembrist every year. If your plant is in good conditions:
- flower pot low but wide
- underneath a thick drainage layer
- loose, nutritious soil mix, good air permeability
That is not worth worrying once again the already weak root system. It will be enough to periodically gently loosen the ground, being careful not to damage the roots.
If your Decembrist grows in other conditions, then early spring is the time for a competent transplant. Just do not take a huge pot for the future. In such a bucket, the soil quickly acidifies, and the roots simply do not have time to master the entire space. In general, for the Decembrist, 20 years old, a flowerpot with a diameter of not more than 20 cm is quite enough.
May. June
A flower stands on a sunny but shaded window sill. Direct sunlight is contrary to the natural needs of the Decembrist. And they will burn him mercilessly.
Care at this time is simple:
- once a month top dressing with a weak solution of any mineral fertilizer
- maintaining high humidity by spraying
- light but frequent watering
- temperature at the level of + 22-27 ° С, not higher
- loosening the soil to improve breathability
The tropics, namely from there the zygocactus comes from, is warm and humid, not heat and damp. By the way, the Decembrist grows on tree trunks, and not on the ground, so you should not be especially zealous about nutrition.
The Decembrist will not refuse organics, only in very small quantities. If everything is done correctly, then on the tips of the broken off shoots the beginnings of new rings appear.
July. August
Care continues in the same manner, new shoots are growing safely. The only thing is that feeding is completely stopped now, but not abruptly, but gradually reducing them to nothing.
By the way, at this time you can calmly rearrange the pot with the Decembrist, which then will not be possible. You can even take the plant to the garden. At the same time, the cold August nights will remind him of the imminent period of rest.
September
By this time, top dressing is stopped. Now you need to reduce to zero watering, spraying and generally any moisture.
The big mistake of many gardeners is the installation of additional lighting for Decembrist and maintenance in greenhouse conditions. Air temperature should remain at a level no higher than + 17 ° С. Daylight hours are short and dull.
Do not worry that the plant is in Spartan conditions. In natural conditions, this is completely normal. But the flower will understand that now there is a period of hibernation. Just do not change the conditions abruptly. Everything should happen as smoothly and without jumps.By the way, the climate of the middle strip allows you to keep the Decembrist on the street or on the balcony until mid-autumn. The only thing that needs to be done is to cover the pots from the rain. Unexpected abundant watering can nullify all your efforts.
October
Decembrist is sleeping. All of the above conditions do not change. But it’s already cold outside, because when the air temperature drops to + 10 ° С it practically stops all life processes, but we don’t need it. At the same time, the room is too hot for a normal period of rest. What to do?
There are options:
- Keep on a glazed balcony or porch. Just watch the night temperatures, sometimes frosts occur.
- Keeping in a room on a windowsill. In this case, the batteries are covered with a thick towel or blanket.
- You can fence off the bottom of the window from the room with glass or thick film.
- They also recommend putting a planter with a plant in the porch or vestibule of the apartment.
- Some gardeners manage to keep the Decembrist in a hot room, but nearby lay plastic ice bottles. As they cool, they are replaced with new ones.
- The flower is placed under an open window.
As you can see, there are many options. If you need the rapid flowering of the Decembrist, you will certainly find the opportunity to keep it cool.
November
Around the middle of the month, the Decembrist should be gradually withdrawn from the rest period. Slowly they begin to water the earth, slightly increase the air temperature, slightly increase the lighting.
By the way, this time is the last moment when the planter can be rearranged to another place. Once tiny buds appear, this will not be possible. It is forbidden to even rotate the plant around its axis and touch the shoots. Otherwise, all the buds will fall off safely. The Decembrist will grow, having missed the flowering period.
All annual preparation will have to start all over again, because in summer the zygocactus does not bloom.
December. January
If everything was done correctly, then at this time you admire the magnificent flowering. Now you can’t be zealous with leaving. You can only:
- spray the decembrist with cool standing water
- occasionally water the soil until slightly moistened
- feed with any fertilizer for flowering plants
The dosage of mineral water should be reduced by 2, or even 3 times. The root system of the Decembrist may not have time to assimilate the full measure.
February
By this time, most zigocactus finish pleasing owners and are exhausted as much as possible. Do not listen to tips that recommend letting the plant rest for a month or two. This is fraught with the death of the Decembrist. Remove all faded buds and begin to gradually increase fertilizing, watering and spraying. March is coming, and a new period of preparation for the next flowering of the Decembrist will come.
Some recommendations
There are tips to plant a Decembrist in the purchased soil for cacti. But it is rocky and sandy, plants are not adapted to this. Better prepare the soil yourself. Just something and you will need:
- peat
- sand
- turf
- humus leaf
- deciduous tree bark
Mix in equal parts and safely plant. Such a composition is as close to natural as possible and passes air well.
Probably, a special soil for orchids is even more suitable for zigocactus. Because they grow in approximately the same conditions for the root system. Just add a little ordinary garden soil to this soil.
If you missed the planter permutation and the Decembrist has already begun to produce buds, you will have to adapt and do not touch it until the flowering ends. The slightest movement in this period - and you already miss the whole year without admiring the fabulous bouquet.
You should know that the Decembrist lays buds only on young shoots. If you feel sorry for breaking off a plant in spring, then you can be left without flowers in winter. In addition, a similar procedure helps to form a lush bush, and not two branches up to the floor.
Do not confuse partial shade and shading. The first will not help the Decembrist in the formation of buds, because he simply does not have enough light. The shoots will be thin and long. The second favorably affects the development of the whole plant, because it allows you to get maximum lighting without overheating and direct sunlight.
Throughout the vegetative cycle, carefully monitor the drainage holes. They should be free and allow good fluid permeability. The root system of the Decembrist is already very small and weak. And if it is still constantly in the swamp, then the roots simply rot. What flowers are there when the plant dies?
