More recently, there were only three types of filler for pillows: feather, feather-feather, feather. Down pillows have always been considered the softest and most airy. Puffer feathers are chosen by lovers of hard pillows, and feather pillows are most often found in budget institutions. Now the choice of textiles has become much larger than before, and more recently, bamboo pillows have appeared.
Bamboo pillows in their texture resemble cotton wool and synthetic winterizer, they are very soft, light and voluminous. For such pillows and covers, they are usually sewn from bamboo or cotton fabric.
Pillow filler and description thereof
Nowadays, there are two ways to process bamboo raw materials - mechanical and chemical.
During mechanical processing, the stems are crushed, then treated with enzymes and turned into a homogeneous soft mass. Flax is produced using a similar technology. From the resulting homogeneous mass, strands with a length of 15 to 20 centimeters are pulled. This processing process is too energy-intensive and time-consuming, and therefore quite expensive.
In chemical processing, the stems together with the leaves are crushed to the state of sawdust. After that, the obtained raw materials are treated with reagents to obtain an adhesive mass. The resulting mass is run through the plates, and then laid out in the acid so that it hardens. At the final stage, all chemicals are washed out of bamboo fiber, after which it becomes environmentally friendly. This method of processing at the moment is the most common due to the low cost.
Fact! Bamboo fiber is always white in color with a porous structure, while being durable. It doesn’t matter in what way it was produced; externally it does not differ from each other.
Bamboo and wood viscose will last a long time without losing their structure. Also, such raw materials do not harm health. This happens due to the strength, unpretentiousness and durability of synthetics with its positive properties of natural fiber.
pros
Bamboo products are superior in quality and characteristics of padding polyester. Their main advantages:
- Bamboo fiber, due to its unique composition, can reduce the manifestation of allergies, so bamboo pillows can be called hypoallergenic.
- Such products do not cause sweating, as they perfectly pass air.
- Bamboo fiber is hygroscopic, that is, it has the ability to quickly absorb moisture and dry out just as quickly. This quality is especially relevant and indispensable in the summer.
- Textiles hold their shape perfectly for even elasticity. Such a pillow is quite rigid, so in the morning you will not notice neck pain, and there will also be no problems with the spine.
- Bamboo viscose is bactericidal, which means that mites and other pathogenic microorganisms will never appear in it.
- Such a pillow is not capable of accumulating and retaining odors.
- Such textiles do not need to be serviced in a dry-cleaner, home conditions will suffice for him.
- Bamboo pillows are durable and durable.
- The price of such a product does not differ much from the prices of other types, and therefore is affordable.
Disadvantages of Bamboo Pillows
- The product wrinkles quickly. Over time, the fibers begin to coalesce, and it becomes not as convenient as it was before.
- If you use a pillow with bamboo filler in a very humid climate, then it can absorb all the moisture like a sponge and not have time to dry out.
These shortcomings can easily be resolved by regularly whipping the pillow, after which it again becomes elastic and voluminous. Products from synthetic winterizer, unfortunately, cannot be revived in this way.
From some sources you can find out that bamboo pillows can have a rejuvenating effect, but this is rather an advertising move. Although, if you sleep on such a pillow, rashes on the face and skin irritation can pass. This is due to the fact that mites that can cause skin inflammation do not start in bamboo fiber.
It is very difficult to find real opinions from experts about the benefits of such textiles, since no doctor will take responsibility and confirm unverified statements. But one thing is for sure, that the bactericidal properties are confirmed by laboratory tests.
How to choose a pillow with bamboo filling
When buying such a product, you must be extremely careful. Pay attention to:
- The composition of the pillow. It should be 100% bamboo fiber, bamboo cellulose or bamboo. A lot of synthetics should not be in the composition.

- The quality of the seam and tailoring. If the seam is even and neatly sealed, it means that you have a good manufacturer, which means that the pillow is made with high quality and will last you a long time.
- If you like to sleep on your side, then you need to choose an orthopedic pillow with bamboo filler. Although it is more expensive, it can protect your neck from osteochondrosis.
