Alkalis - a description of where it grows, the toxicity of the fungus

What kind of mushrooms you will not meet in nature. Some of them resemble a ball, others look like a miniature mace. There are also those that resemble corals in appearance. All of them can be combined into one group, whose name is strange mushrooms. Naturally, they are not similar to those many species that are customary to see in the forest, and therefore mushroom pickers, as a rule, bypass them simply by the side, completely not paying any attention to them.

Common alkalis

One of the representatives of this group is the common alkalis or ear-shaped. It really resembles an ear in some way. It can also be compared with a saucer.

Prevalence

A place for its growth, the mushroom chooses trunks and knots of deciduous trees. For the first time he was described by the French botanist, mycologist and physician Joseph-Henri Levayet. It happened back in 1948. North America and Europe are places of its distribution. It occurs in other places. You can’t see him except in Antarctica. It grows from mid-autumn until the very beginning of winter. In some countries, for example, in Denmark, the mushroom is listed in the Red Book.

Most often, the fungus is characterized by group growth, however, isolated instances are also found. The fungus can even use wood chips and sawdust as a substrate for its growth. Carrying out its growth on a tree, the mushroom causes the appearance of white rot of wood. It can be found not only in the forest, but also in the garden and park.

Description

The fruit body is represented by a hat, having the form of a spindle or shell. Its dimensions are about 3-5 cm in diameter. If the fungus grows on a substrate with a horizontal surface, then this is accompanied by the formation of the most bizarre forms, then the surface of the hat resembles felt, and when it rains, it becomes slippery to the touch. The young mushroom has a white hat with a slight gray tint, but when he becomes an adult, the color of his hat acquires a brown color. The leg is either absent altogether or very weakly expressed.

The mushroom has the appearance of thin fissile and diverging in different directions plates. The plates can close or open. When the mushroom dries, the gap closes. This circumstance is a kind of adaptation condition for growth in those areas where climatic conditions cannot boast of an abundance of rain. The pulp of the mushroom has an inexpressive smell, thin and dense in nature. Spore powder is white. When the fruit body dries, it will retain its properties well enough until next year.

The possibility of eating

Residents of Europe and America do not use rustle. But this does not mean that he has signs of toxicity. The fungus does not have them. Most likely the reason for this is that the mushroom has a rather rigid consistency. The Chinese, Latin Americans, and the inhabitants of the African continent not only use this mushroom for their nutrition, but also successfully cultivate it.

Some interesting facts
