Cats of the Siamese breed are distinguished by their lightness and a specific wedge-shaped head. Representatives of this breed are easy to distinguish from others, because they have a special, no-characteristic color. But, besides this, Siamese cats have another feature that makes them exceptional. For many years of the history of the Siamese cat, he remained the way he is now, because he was never crossed with cats of other breeds. This primordial makes these animals special.
The history of the Siamese breed
The country that is home to these cats is Thailand. At the very beginning of the development, the Siamese breed was considered sacred animals. They were protected by law, as well as universally respected cats. Royal Thai families used Siamese representatives for special rituals. Therefore, the export of animal borders was strictly prohibited. But, despite the prohibitions, Siamese cats still appeared over time in European countries.
You can hear references to Siamese cats through Thai stories and legends. One of their stories tells that when the princess went swimming in the river, she was accompanied by a Siamese cat. Before you go swimming, she removed jewelry from her hands and strung on a cat's tail, so that the animal retained them while bathing the Thai princess. But in one of these baths, the cat dropped one of the rings. And after that, the girl tied knots at the end of her tail so that she would not lose the ring.
Just talking about the nodes in the distant past, in the homeland of Siamese cats, their presence spoke of belonging to the breed. But now they found out that the reason for this was a completely different reason. Knots on the cat's tail are a sign that there was a crossing of closely related representatives of the breed. But at present, the presence of creases, and the so-called nodes on the tail is not considered a virtue, but rather a flaw and a defect.
Until today, the history of the origin of the breed remains unknown to mankind. It is believed that, most likely, the beginning of its development came from wild cats, the breed of which is now known as Bengal. And there is evidence for this. The main sign by which experts have confirmed kinship is the gestational age. Both those and other representatives go pregnant at least sixty-five days. But, if we talk about any other breeds, then their period is from fifty-five to sixty-five days, and no more.
The life of Siamese cats in Europe began in the late nineteenth century. And this was not a secret removal of animals from the country; the king of Thailand himself provided cats as a gift to the English consul. After that, cats spread throughout the continent, European countries and reached America itself, but it was much later.
To date, Siamese cats have forty species, if we talk about the color of the animal. Among the known species there are also monophonic species, which include black with lilac, blue and many others.
The hair of the animal is rather dense texture, short, but shiny. The cat itself is quite miniature, which contributed to the narrow skeleton. But, despite their small size, their muscles are quite developed, and are considered powerful. This is especially noticeable on the shoulders and hips of the cat.
The main, and most noticeable sign, by which we can say for sure that this is a Siamese, is his eyes. All or almost all who are Siamese have expressive eyes in the form of tonsils. The bulk of the animals has light blue eyes. Another feature of cats of this breed is a kind of mask on the face, as it is called, and the color of the legs. The latter, as well as the muzzle, has a darker coat color than throughout the body. This feature of the animal is explained by body temperature. Because the temperature on the legs and muzzle is lower than the pigment, which is responsible for coat color. This creates a smooth transition of color, which makes the breed unusual and beautiful.
Siamese standards
Here are listed a number of features by which Siamese differ from other breeds, and also according to these characteristics they are combined into one breed:
- Representatives of the Siamese breed of medium size, with well-developed muscles. A small head with a torso is connected by an elongated and slender neck. The chest and hips of the animal stand out because of its breadth.
- The front and back legs of the cat are long and slender, the legs themselves are oval.
- The tail is much longer than that of other breeds, delicate and sharp at the tip.
- The muzzle of the Siamese is narrow, the head itself is wedge-shaped with a long nose and a flat forehead.
- Eyes expressive, almond-shaped. The color can be different shades of blue, mostly light blue. The exception is green eyes.
- Compared to the head, the ears are quite large in size and wide at the base.
- The hair of the animal is smooth and shiny, and also quite short, fits tightly to the body, but does not have an undercoat.
Animal character
If we talk about pets in general, then Siamese people are considered the most quick-witted and curious. But, despite this, the character of the animal can be completely unpredictable, because Siamese are often considered very jealous cats. Cats of this breed love to be near their owner, so they can go everywhere for him. Character features allow you to train a cat so that he can show tricks. But for this you need to have a lot of patience.
Those who belong to the Siamese breed are very faithful and loyal, but besides this, these animals are very affectionate and love to play. Therefore, they will always ask for attention from the owner. But, if a person is not ready for this, then it is better to get a cat of a different breed in order to avoid trouble. It is also worth learning that these cats are very energetic, and you won’t get calm with them. Many people notice that representatives of this breed sometimes behave like dogs.
Those who are nervous about the constant meowing of cats, it is better to discard the option with the Siamese cat, because these animals are very "talkative." They like to talk with their master. We can say for sure that Siamese cats are not for everyone. But their main advantage is the manifestation of love for their owner. Therefore, if a person needs it, and also will not be opposed to the cat’s active lifestyle and its constant meowing - the Siamese cat is just for him.
It’s good if there are a lot of people in the family that took the Siamese to themselves. Thus, the Siamese will give love to everyone, and will not have time to bother anyone. And if we talk about the interaction of a cat or cat with animals of another breed, or, for example, dogs, then this is very individual. Because it depends on the nature of both of them.
Siamese care
Due to the fact that the hair of the animal is very short, it is very easy to care for it. You do not need a comb or brush for this, because the owner’s hand is suitable for this. To clean the body of the Siamese from the fallen hair, you need to moisten your hand with water and draw a cat along the growth of the hairs. Thus, with the help of the hand, everything that fell out will be removed.
But, in addition to such combing, it is worth bathing the cat. For cats living exclusively at home, swimming can be done once a month or less, depending on the need and possible contamination of the animal. Also do not forget about teeth and ears. View the condition of the ears once or twice a week. In order not to forget, you can do this at the same time as cleaning the wool.
Siamese people have a tendency to problems with teeth, so brushing them is a prerequisite. It is worth accustoming to this procedure from a very early age, because it is difficult to accustom an older animal to it.
Siamese cat feeding
Ideally, it is worth feeding the animal only with premium feeds, for the reason that they contain all the necessary components to maintain the cat’s excellent and healthy state. Holistics are also ideal for feeding.
In order to choose a good food for your pet, you can consult with the veterinarian or breeder from whom the pet was purchased. Both those and others should know which animal feed is the most suitable. After all, they take into account the characteristics of the breed and their needs.
Animal diseases
Siamese cats are completely healthy animals, but this is subject to the condition that the owner will properly care for his pet. The life of such a cat can last up to twenty years.
But, unfortunately, some members of the breed may be predisposed to diseases that are transmitted genetically. The most common are liver failure, cardiomyopathy, as well as low-grade tumors that form in the mammary glands of the animal. But these cases are not common. The same goes for dental diseases. Strabismus is considered even less common. This ailment is considered a problem characteristic of Siamese cats. But now this phenomenon has become rare.
Just like ordinary cats or animals of a different breed, Siamese can be infected by worms, fleas, and also deprive. These problems are not considered catastrophic. And you can cure the animal at home. But with certain knowledge, it is best to seek help from a specialist who will recommend remedies that will help get rid of the disease.
Where to get a Siamese cat
The cost of a small representative can range from three to twenty thousand Russian rubles. The price is approximate, since you can find a kitten and lower in cost if it comes to breeders, or even higher if it is a prestigious nursery located in a metropolis.
In any case, the choice is the future owner. After all, when buying an animal, he receives not only a pet that needs to be looked after, but also a family member, with his character and needs, which also need to be satisfied.
