All representatives of nightingales belong to songbirds. To this day, it is not known for what reasons the individual has learned its name. It is only clear that the ancient Greek word "nightingale" is translated as Lucinia. This name was called women with excellent voice. But let's not talk about the lyrics anymore, let's study all aspects related to the species of birds, in order of priority.
Description
- By nightingale we mean a bird that brings happiness. It has long been believed that these individuals bring prosperity, comfort, and mutual understanding to the house. Eastern people still believe in this. Particularly popular was the voice of individuals, partly because of this, birds were caught and sold. Feathered friends settled with the sheikhs, emperors and other nobles.
- Some birds were delivered to overseas merchants; other birds were brought to domestic nobles. At the beginning of the 19th century, it became forbidden to catch these birds, but only in some regions. Due to the fact that the number was declining, it was necessary to urgently restore it.
- Solovyov is recognized not only by the vocal cords, but also by external characteristics. So, in the body they grow up to 27 cm, which is quite a lot for such a bird. Body weight hardly exceeds 25 g. A distinctive characteristic is the plumage of a gray tide with blue inclusions. It is not as nondescript as a sparrow.
- The upper part of the body is covered with blue feathers, white features are seen in the lower section (abdominal cavity, brisket). Lateral parts 50 to 50, that is, blue and white. The wings are brownish in tone, the tail is elongated, dark blue pigmented.
- The females are not painted so brightly, they are brownish almost completely, only a blue speck is observed in the upper part next to the fly feathers. All birds, regardless of gender, have a black beak, as well as small eyes.
- The neck is mobile, strong. The cut on the tail is straight, when the bird sits, it drops. If you classify these individuals as a family, then the situation is ambiguous. Some experts claim that nightingales are classified as flytraps. Others insist on blackbirds.
Lifestyle
- These birds are careful and try not to get close to humans. They live preferably in quiet and secluded places. They love forests, woodlands. Bask in the sun in the clearings, are not in the shade.
- Birds are active at night or at dawn. In the afternoon they are almost inaudible. At night and at dusk, birds feed, mate, coo. Live in couples or alone.
- Depending on the region of habitat of individuals, they can lead a sedentary lifestyle or wandering. In the vastness of our country, songbirds migrate to Africa with the advent of cold weather. Often, birds spend the winter in the Congo.
- In whatever terrain the nightingale lives, he will always choose deciduous forests. Often, the presented individuals prefer a densely growing lower tier. Which consists of shrubs and is located near water bodies.
- In addition, such a habitat will most likely be in a lowland. Only in rare cases do these birds settle in the mountains, on dry hills and sand dunes.
Nutrition
- The basis of the diet of individuals is mainly protein food. Also, the menu is complemented by herbal products. Birds often feed on nuts, plants, berries, seeds and thorns.
- As for food of animal origin, nightingales are very fond of ants, their eggs, worms, spiders, beetles, caterpillars and maggots. Also, birds often enjoy small invertebrates and insects. Nightingales even in flight can catch butterflies and bloodworms.
Mating season
- The breeding season in birds usually falls in May. As soon as the birds arrive in their native lands, they wait until the moment when the buds begin to bloom and the first leaves appear. Only in such a favorable environment do individuals begin to sing.
- Males emit loud trills that are dedicated to absolutely all females. As soon as the pair has formed, the male begins to sing to his chosen one quieter and more seductively.
- During the mating season, the males not only sing loudly and beautifully, they also widely spread their wings. After the couple mated, they begin to build a home. The female herself builds a nest and she is also engaged in hatching.
Nightingales are one of the most popular birds in our country. They delight us with their spring singing. By their trills one can judge that the long-awaited spring has already come. In adult individuals, parental instincts are well developed, so after the birth of the chicks into the world, parents carefully monitor them.
