Cultivation and care

When is the best time to plant seeds?
The main criterion is the period of the onset of warm weather, when the positive temperature is established day and night and the threat of frost disappears. Usually this period falls on May. The second criterion is the term for growing tomato seedlings. He is at the hybrid Boyarynya 50 days after sowing. This means that two months after planting seeds in the soil, seedlings should be in open ground or in a greenhouse. Approximately in early March, you can plant seeds in the prepared soil. It is important to choose a period so that the seedlings do not outgrow.
Overgrown tomato seedlings promise the following troubles:
- The development of bushes is significantly inhibited.
- The root system is poorly developed.
- The ovary is not formed in the right amount.
- In general, the amount of yield is reduced.
Seed preparation
Purchased seeds are saturated with special solutions for rapid germination and disinfected, so they can immediately be planted in the soil.
If the seeds were harvested on their own, firstly, they need to be checked for germination. Seeds are soaked in five percent saline. Floated seeds are removed - they are infertile. Only those that remain at the bottom are left. They will make excellent shoots.
Secondly, the seeds remaining after the first procedure must be disinfected. To do this, they are wrapped in gauze and kept for 15-20 minutes in a one percent solution of potassium permanganate. Then it is washed under running water. Wrap the seeds in wet gauze and leave for a day.
Soil preparation
Land from the beds is mixed in equal doses with sifted river sand, humus, peat. Ash is added to this mixture to reduce acidity. Ready soil is disinfected to prevent disease. The easiest way is to warm it in the oven at a temperature of 190-200 degrees or in a microwave oven with a power of 800 watts. An alternative is to shed the soil with a one percent solution of manganese.
Container preparation
A usual shallow box, a plastic box from under the cake, plastic cups, peat pots can serve as a seat. Planting containers must be properly washed and disinfected. On this, the preparatory measures are over. You can proceed to the next step.
Sowing tomatoes
Prepared containers are filled in two-thirds with soil. 1 cm deep grooves are made in the ground.
- The distance between the grooves is 3-4cm.Seeds are placed in the grooves at a distance of 1-2 cm from each other. Top grooves are sprinkled with soil and sprayed with water to maintain moisture.
- A container with planted seeds is placed on a window near the battery to maintain heat and covered with a film or glass.
- It is very important to observe the thermal regime and the humidity regime before emergence. Avoid excessive watering and drying out of the soil. From time to time, the film is removed for ventilation.
Pick
If the seedlings were planted in a common container too thickly, after 7-10 days after planting with the appearance of leaves you need to pick.
- Picke - transplanting seedlings into separate containers. Usually, plastic or peat cups are used for this.
- Plants are transplanted one or two in each cup along with a lump of earth. After transplanting, it is necessary to irrigate so that the plant is better taken root.
