Tomato Elf

Characteristics

The tomato is mid-season, indeterminate type. Tall. It reaches a height of up to two meters, and in a greenhouse grows in height about three meters. It requires timely garter to the trellises, removal of stepsons (once a week) and pinching of the upper shoots. Otherwise, the bushes will grow densely, which will significantly complicate the harvest. The best option when the plant is formed in two or three stems. The internodes are of medium length.

Ripe fruits are dark red in color. The taste is pleasant, sweet, with a slight acidity. The pulp is juicy and fleshy. There are only two seed chambers, there are few seeds inside. The skin is dense, glossy. The mass of ripe tomato is 20-30 grams. The brushes in configuration resemble clusters of large grapes. Each of them can grow from 10 to 15 fruits that look like a drop.

It is important to know that when overripe, the tomatoes begin to crack and fall off. Ovaries form throughout the summer. The first crop can be harvested in mid-July.

Great for salads. Often used to decorate various dishes. The best option for conservation (under the influence of increased temperature, the tomatoes do not burst).

Growing and caring for an Elf tomato

The term of full ripening of tomato is 3-3.5 months. Planting seeds at a constant place of growth is necessary two months before transplanting seedlings. First you need to prepare the ground (it is best to purchase soil specifically designed for growing seedlings of tomatoes and peppers). The day before sowing shed warm solutions of potassium permanganate. This will help protect the plant from fungus.

The ground under the ground before planting needs to be moistened. After sowing, sprinkle with a thin layer of earth or sand. Cover the containers with plastic material or glass. After about five days, the first sprouts will appear. Germination is one hundred percent.

Before planting, the plant should be hardened. The dive is carried out two weeks after the appearance of the first 2-3 leaves. Planting density - 2-3 bushes per square meter. If the seedlings have grown significantly - it can be planted in a horizontal way: the plant is placed in a shallow ditch and sprinkled with earth, leaving half of the stem open. A young bush forms a branching of the root system, thereby improving its growth and nutrition. When the plant grows 20 centimeters - you need to tie it under the flower brush.

Important! Tomato is demanding on sunlight and soil quality. Therefore, it is recommended to plant sprouts in a lighted place and saturate the earth with useful substances in a timely manner.

When feeding plants, it is important to remember that an excess of nitrogen fertilizers can lead to plant growth, tomatoes will become smaller, or knotting will not occur at all.

Fruits in mid-July until the end of the summer season. Productivity - 10-15 kilograms per square meter (growing in a greenhouse will increase fruiting by 20-25 percent).

Disease protection

The variety has a fairly high immunity against a large number of tomato diseases:

Elf Tomatoes

  • Alternariosis
  • Viral tobacco mosaic.
  • Verticillosis.
  • Fusarium wilting.
  • Cladosporiosis.

To increase the protection of tomato from late blight disease, the use of chemicals is required. You can use tools such as Fundazole, Fitosporin, or Quadris.

From dry spotting the bushes will protect:

  • "Concento";
  • "Antracolom."
  • In the fight against phomosis, the Hom proves to be the best.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the variety include:

  • Abundant fruiting.
  • Universal use.
  • Resistance to pathogens.
  • Excellent transportability.
  • Great taste.
  • Stress resistance.
  • Does not shed ovaries even in hot weather.
  • Long-term storage.
  • Canning whole fruits.

The disadvantage can be considered:

  1. The need to get rid of stepsons and pinching shoots.
  2. Demanding for light, heat and regular top dressing.
  3. Needs a garter to the supports.

Reviews

  1. Sergey Vladimirovich V., 62 years old: I grow elf tomatoes in a greenhouse. I consider the main advantage of the variety to be able to get a crop almost before the first frost.
  2. Elena A, 45 years old: I recommend to all. Experienced summer residents and beginners. The harvest is always rich, the tomatoes are delicious. The only drawback is that it grows very quickly.
