Ussuri cat - breed description and cat character

The Ussuri cat is also called a striped exclusive due to its specific and very extravagant color. It stands out among the breeds of a different type, because the pattern on the wool is somewhat similar to toyger. Despite this, the Ussuri did not gain popularity for unknown reasons. Plus, their habitat is limited. The breed can only be saved if unselfish breeders take Ussuri under their “wing” or the good Samaritan does not sponsor the whole thing.

Historical summary

The man did not take part in the origin of the breed, we can say that it was bred independently. The offspring was the result of crossbreeding of domestic and wild cats. The origin is easily confirmed, it is enough to consider the characteristic features of the animal and external signs.

From the lips of some breeders, we can conclude that there is another theory of the origin of this breed. Allegedly, she was bred by crossing Siberian and Amur wild cats. But there is no evidence for this, except that a powerful physique and strong character.

The first rumors about this breed began in Moscow back in 1993. The animals were brought to the exhibition straight from the Amur region. A year later they found their standards in our country, the rest of the world does not perceive them as a complete breed.

Ussuri, one might say, is an endangered species, despite large investments in the development of this beautiful breed. Every year there are fewer of them. It is worth knowing that the main distinguishing feature of animals is a white mustache, they are not of a different color.

External characteristics of Ussuri

1. Cats of this breed are large, powerful, with a striped back. Some jokingly call them a small copy of the striped tigers. The picture has no clear boundaries, they are blurry (shaded). The color is called ticking, that is, each wool has several shades at once, replacing each other.
2. The Ussuri breed is extremely difficult to confuse with other cats of similar species. It's all about a proud gait, muscular physique, self-confident look. Some cats have small tassels on their ears, but this is more of an addition rather than a mandatory feature.
3. Animals are famous for their neat chin of medium size, a rounded head. Above the brow there are weakly pronounced arcs, in females the cheeks are not visible, in males hardly. Ussuri can boast a cute nose of a cream or pinkish hue, along its circumference there are characteristic stripes of color.
4. Cats are famous for their developed muscular body, the whole thing is the "wildness" of the origin of the breed. They are collected, agile, energetic, the back is not perfectly straight, but strong. The cat is good at hunting, the hind legs are slightly longer than the front.
5. Wild cats have a white mustache, and this color does not change depending on the color of the coat. Ussuri ears are rounded, slightly extended forward. The tail has medium-sized rings; the tail itself is slightly rounded.
6. The color “in transition” has no clear boundaries; it seems to be blurred. There are several types of wool, which can be with a blue or reddish tint, black, cream. The main sign of Ussuri is strips on the wool, sometimes rings. “Marriage” is the color with the letter “M” on the head or whitish spots, as well as paws of the same tone.

Cat character

1. What you need to know, such cats do not suffer infringement and aggression on your part. The animal will negatively relate to you if you offend it. Such a breed loves freedom and treats the owner as an equal. You cannot dominate her.
2. The Ussuri cat is not diligent and not very affectionate, so you should not rely on the fact that the animal will happily sit in your arms for a long time. The pet is far from such a character. A cat prefers to spend time alone most of her free time, she will rarely pamper you with her attention.
3. Such a breed should not be started in an apartment, even in a large house you will rarely see your pet. The cat will always ask to go outside; she is interested in exploring the surroundings and hunting. Breeders recommend having a pet to eliminate rodents in the house. Ussuri will hunt such animals and birds.
4. It is worth noting that the breed is simply not amenable to training, so you have to adapt. The cat does not tolerate excessive attention, especially from young children. Therefore, be especially careful. The pet can fight back, he will not tolerate. Therefore, you need to start Ussuri in a private house with big children.
5. Do not try to get a cat together with birds or rodents. Ussuri will endlessly hunt them until he reaches his goal. Experts also claim that such cats have a subtle intuition. Therefore, hiding other pets in a cage on a high cabinet makes no sense.

Maintenance and care

1. Remember that such pets are freedom-loving, so first of all you should have a private yard with its own territory. Ussuri simply will not be able to live in an ordinary apartment, and at any convenient moment she will run away. Such pets are not very popular.
2. The cat is not picky in the content, you will not need any efforts. Just give your pet free access to the street. Even a scratching post is not required. The advantage of the breed is that they are clean. Therefore, she will not shit in the house, nor will you see wool everywhere.
3. Bathing such a breed should only be necessary. During molting, the animal is recommended to comb out about 5 times a month. In a normal period, three times is enough. Without fail, carry out prevention from worms and do the necessary vaccinations. Moreover, the pet will spend most of the time on the street.
